Review: Lay It Down (Desert Dogs, #1) by Cara McKenna
Lay It Down by Cara McKenna
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Wow…this is some hot and wicked romance with a dose of suspense thrown in. What a start to Cara McKenna’s Desert Dogs Series.
After being so disappointed with the last book I read by this author, I am over the moon finding this series.
Set in a small town in the Nevada boondocks, with interesting and not your average characters that you cannot help liking.
Vince Grossier is king in this town..never mind that he’s been in jail…not for any really bad things….and together with his friends, who call themselves the Desert Dogs since childhood , make things really interesting around Fortuity, He takes his responsibilities very serious…cares for his mother who some call mad but actually she sees things before they happen!!!! He also has a rather interesting brother who has returned home after being away for years….something mysterious about his absence which we never find out about….
Anyway, strange things are happening in this rather unremarkable little town with the coming of a casino being erected in the area.
Vince’s friend and one of the members of the Desert Dogs dies under mysterious circumstances and asking questions about the death opens up a can of worms.
Kim arrives in town to photograph the area for the casino contractors and wow….Vince takes one look at her and the sparks fly!!!!!
Vince is just one hell of a sexy seducer …..I could so understand how Kim was unable to resist this man!!!! He’s sexy, funny, caring, lovable…please can I have him for myself??? And in bed…HOT!!! He sizzles. He sure knows how to please a woman…lucky Kim.
I was totally captivated by the way the story evolves….I was never bored. I devoured every page, every word. Couldn’t get enough of the Forltuit characters.
There are some wonderful, quirky and even wacky and mysterious characters that I can’t wait to find out more about them in the next book.
The two characters in particular…Raina , the owner of the local bar and tattoo artist and the stuck up Englishman Duncan Welch. I can’t wait to see if these two go anywhere together!!!!
I am so glad to rediscover Cara McKenna again!!!!

Review: Ready and Willing by Cara McKenna
Ready and Willing by Cara McKenna
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
This was so horrible!!!!
I have read 3 books by this author and I loved them..in fact I rated them all 5 stars so I could I go wrong with anything written by Cara McKernna.
What a surprise...a not so nice one at that. Because I found nothing that I liked about Ready and Willing!
Unlikable characters, silly plot and no erotica fabulosity!!!!!!
Abby is in her thirties and feels her biological clock is ticking away...I can understand that feeling...so she decides to go the sperm donor route!!! Now, she's not interested in a relationship, she she wants to get impregnated and move on without the hassles of a husband or a man in her life. Oh, she's going to use a sperm bank??? Wrong!!! This girl has a different idea altogether.
She chooses two men, who she finds fit the "bill" for creating a super baby. She discusses her proposal with the guys and they are quite happy to play the stud....and the added bonus is that she will pay them each time they have sex...so if you don't come right first time, try again and again...and continue making money out of this stupid woman. Why 2 men instead of 1??? This girl is smart...in case one of them "shoots" blanks then the other's sperm will swim upstream and voila...baby on the way!!!!!
What, you don't think this is weird???? Okay...it gets better!! One night, both guys pitch and what do you know....a threesome happens!!! That's right!!! Now, I am a fan of menage, but their menage was....so not sexy...more like
I found nothing remotely sexy about the two men...in fact they were even more irritating than idiotic Abby. And please can someone explain to me how it's possible for two men (view spoiler)[to place their penises in one woman's vagina at the same time (hide spoiler)] Acrobatics perhaps????
It was a good thing that it was a short read otherwise I would have given up halfway......though I did skim a lot of the pages near the end....
Now why would I continue reading if I was not liking it? Well, just in case there was going to be some redeeming part/s at the end....but believe me...there were none.
Don't be put off reading any other books by this author because of what I felt about this little story - she has some great books which should be read by anyone who likes good erotica.

Review: The Taming Of Xander Sterne by Carole Mortimer
The Taming Of Xander Sterne by Carole Mortimer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I am not enjoying this author's books as much as I did her earlier ones.
I liked the hero but the heroine was a bit washy washy.....wish she would get some backbone and fight back - the whole scenario with her ex-husband was a bit much for me....kick his ass and tell him to f.....off!!!! Instead she's like this helpless female, who suddenly grows some grit with the help of old Xander!!!! Why couldn't she do it herself, on her own.
I loved the heroine's small daughter...totally adorable and lovable and she had the best lines in the story......in fact she was total kickass when it came to dealing with her horrible horrible father!!!!
I didn't exactly hate this book but it did not sparkle for me.

Review: At the Count's Bidding by Caitlin Crews
At the Count's Bidding by Caitlin Crews
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Ooh, this is just up my alley!!!! A story about movie stars, Hollywood,
noble Italian families,Tuscany,a gorgeous Count and betrayal and revenge!!!!
Can’t wait to start page 1!!
Ten years ago Paige Fielding had betrayed Giancarlo Alessi in the most horrible and shocking way.
When he discovers her working for his movie star mother, he goes absolutely ballistic!! At first he demands that she disappears from his and his mother’s life. But then he decides that taking some revenge from Paige is a much better idea. He’s going to break and destroy her life just like she had done all those years ago. He blackmails her to travel with him to his home in Tuscany and she agrees because she feels guilty for what she had done to him and also she was rather fond of his mother!!
I so understood and agreed with Giancarlo’s decision in the beginning. After all, Paige had been rather mercenary selling intimate pictures of them together for a lot of money. Now, I was sure there was more to that story and why the hell she did not tell him right from the start was beyond me. She seemed like such a sweet and caring person so why not come clean with him instead of him believing the most horrible things about her.
Instead she lets him abuse and use her, takes all his verbal assaults and even agrees to the sexual torment he dishes out to her….check the scene when she goes down on her knees!!!! That’s when I decided that I needed to slap some sense into her. Because she continues with all this painfully monologues…on and on…open your mouth and talk girl!
Speaking of monologue…….pages and pages of it…..so much so that it became too irritating for me…..
Talk…..can I see some dialogue here??
By now, I am so totally not engaging with Giancarlo….his behavior is totally despicable. Yes, I get his pain, all his family issues…of which there are many….of course there are…after all his mother is a huge movie star who thinks only of her career and looks and his dead Count father was no better….what all the duties of being part of a noble family was important to him and his son!!! Dysfunctional family?? You bet. Let me add to this that Paige’s family history is not much better although is not about titled counts and movies stars but rather seedier Las Vegas types!!!
Can we get these two to talk openly to each other rather than pussyfooting around???
Of course Giancarlo is not a total idiot…and comes up with thoughts in his head that the Paige is getting to know now doesn’t match up with what she had done to him years ago……duh!!!! Took you long enough…she kept telling you so listen up better next time and it would not have taken you so long to find your HEA with her!!
At last, the real reason for Paige’s past actions are revealed, Giancarlo discovers that there is more to his mother than he had always believed and ….everything just works out really well in the end…..
My final thoughts:
I loved the settings, the plot and in the end, the characters as well.
What did not work for me….too much inner monologues and not enough dialogue.

Review: The Real Romero by Cathy Williams
The Real Romero by Cathy Williams
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
The story started off pretty well....a down-and-out and hardworking Milly get's "marooned" in a luxury Swiss chateau with a gorgeous man, who she presumes is a lowly ski instructor but he's actually a billionaire. He's impressed that she's not a golddigger and likes him for what he is and not his money like all the women he has known in the past!!!!!
And then, after a few chapters I became totally irritated with Milly and her inane comments and sayings.
He asks her to pretend to be his fiancee to please his ailing mother and after their visit to Spain, offers her a job and lets her stay in his luxury pad in London...yes, she had no job or a place to live because he ex-fiancee, who she caught in bed with her best friend and housemate, who is still occupying their place....why she didn't kick her friend out and get herself together is beyond me...but then it's so much easier when a rich man puts you up.
And the hero just didn't do it for me.....why did it take him so long to make up his mind about Milly.....he did believe she loved him and not his money...so why all the angst and uncertainty!!!!!
I have read much better books by this author.....this one miss the mark for me!!

The Traveling Man by Jane Harvey-Berrick
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I love this author’s writing and have read all her books, which just by the way, are absolutely awesome. And her latest, The Travelling Man is simply….
What an amazing, intense and beautifully written story, with a unique and unusual setting
Kes, the carnival boy and Aimee, an ordinary girl, who meet as young children, when the travelling carnival he works in comes to her town.
Aimee’s world is changed by their encounter….her life will forever be linked to Kes and his world…..
From childhood friends to lovers, we go take a trip on their journey together….the conflict, deception, lies and obstacles that keep getting in their way to being with each other.
I fell in love with these two characters…I wanted them together….to find each other…
This is a beautiful and extraordinary love story of two people who are brave enough to take that leap that …
Magical. Unforgettable,
I can’t wait for the next book…..The Travelling Woman!!!

Review: Viper Game (GhostWalkers, #11) by Christine Feehan
Viper Game by Christine Feehan
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
What is going on with this series!!!!! It’s veering totally away from the first books. The Ghostwalkers and other characters in the latest book are beyond bizarre!!!!
Dr Whitney is doing some pretty weird things with his human experiments.
Here’s a short summary of this story….
Le Poivre de Cayenne, aka Pepper, beautiful and sensuous,
<
Pepper escapes with a baby from the laboratory, located in the Louisiana Bayou.
She’s rescued by Wyatt Fontenot, who happens to be the younger brother of Gator Fontenot (that yummy bayou Ghostwalker from the 3rd book, Night Game).
Now here’s one hell of a dangerous and possessive man!!!
He just takes over poor old Pepper’s life and BODY!!!
This is insta-love but as we learn more about Pepper and the triplets…yes there’s more than one baby that she fled with…the team goes back to the lab to rescue them….
I am not sure I like the new additions to the Ghostwalkers in this book. They are weird and odd…nothing like the original ones!!!
I liked the bayou setting
And then there’s the sex that the author likes to write pages and pages about!!! Let me just say that I found those Pepper & Wyatt “love” encounters off putting and so not sexy!!!!
I’m not sure where the author is taking this series but I am not enjoying the latest offerings!!!!

Here’s a short summary of this story….
Le Poivre de Cayenne, aka Pepper, beautiful and sensuous,
has been enhanced with snake venom and used to seduce and kill the doctor’s enemies…such as the Ghostwalkers…remember he’s out to annihilate them!

“No one else ever puts their hands, their mouth or their fuckin’ cock here, you got that? There’s only me for you. My hands, my mouth, my cock, you got that?” He snarled it at her, allowing his feral side to slip further out.

…dark, mysterious and dangerous and the characters that did it for me were Wyatt’s grandmother and the cute triplets…..Pepper & Wyatt were just too strange for me.
And then there’s the sex that the author likes to write pages and pages about!!! Let me just say that I found those Pepper & Wyatt “love” encounters off putting and so not sexy!!!!
She cried out and her body tightened around his, clamping hard. Hot, delicious cream enveloped him, scorching him, but he welcomed the fluid, the biochemically treated honey that he’d be forever addicted to. He wanted her to have multiple orgasms, produce as much as possible of her liquid gold.Gross rather than sexy!!!!
I’m not sure where the author is taking this series but I am not enjoying the latest offerings!!!!

Review: Samurai Game (Ghostwalkers #10) by Christine Feehan
Samurai Game by Christine Feehan
This is the 10th book in this series, which I really liked in the beginning…..more about what I feel about the last one or two before this one later….
Azami Yoshiie, beautiful and dangerous, once known as Thorn, when she was used as an experiment by Dr Whitney and discarded and left to die in the streets of Tokyo, is adopted by a powerful samurai family and is now a powerful samurai and assassin.
Sam Johnson is a powerful Ghostwalker soldier, who has also been used and sacrificed by Dr Whitney.
When the two meet, they find that there is a strong bond between them which they can’t understand. Soon they are thrown together on a mission and discover that the connection they have with each other is deep and very strong.
This series is a bit of a hit and miss for me. Whilst I have really liked some of the books, there have been others that made me cringe and bored me to death!!!
I thought that there wasn’t much storyline….and nothing seemed to happen for a long time. On and on before any action and when finally the group gets on with their mission...which was so unbelievable…..and happen so fast….it was like…allright…Ghostwalkers got in, did their bit, killed the bad guys and all go home feeling good about their successful mission!!!
And jeezz…all those pages and more pages about the sexual encounters between Sam & Azami…repeat..repeat…and more repeat!!! I found myself skimming over those parts after the first or second “encounter”. I would have liked more action than sex!!!!!
I do like the Ghostwalkers world and the characters but this one was not one of my favorites in this series.

The Man to Be Reckoned With by Tara Pammi
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
It was an okay read....I found the hero a bit off-putting. All that angst!!!
The heroine was much more likable......how she remained sane having a mother like hers was truly admirable. I would have been driven crazy.....
She also had such a kind and loving heart..... always thinking of the people she loved first. The hero was darn lucky that she loved him.

To Wear His Ring Again by Chantelle Shaw

I was not crazy about this one although I thought at first I would enjoy it...after all the heroine is a famous rock-star in a band!!!!!
But somehow I just did not feel the magic!!!
I found the heroine a bit self-centered and felt that she gave up on the hero when things didn't go her way.
And so much repetition...over and over again!!!!!

Review: Playing by the Greek's Rules (Mills & Boon Modern) by Sarah Morgan
Playing by the Greek's Rules by Sarah Morgan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
What a fabulous story!!!
Lily Rose (adore her name…) believes in love and HEA’s. Despite being an unwanted orphan and being let down and betrayed, she has not let it change her mind…
Nik Zervakis, is an enigmatic, gorgeous, sexy and very very rich Greek billionaire (ooh, I love Greek heroes..they are my absolute favorite – of course, it could have something to do with the fact that my late husband love of my life was a Greek hero…)
So, what we have are two total opposites!!! What could possibly get Lily & Nik together???
Lily has a checklist for finding her perfect man!!!
Lily is going to take control of her life. Forget love…..she’s going to try rebound sex!!!
Okay, Lily!!!!!
Her new adventure begins when she meets Nik, her boss, in his house, which she’s cleaning to make ends meet…in his bathroom….. WHAT A HILARIOUS SCENE!!!!! I was rolling on the floor with laughter!!!
She decides that Nik is just the right guy to practice rebound sex with………after all he’s not into the love thing….and what a luck…he totally agrees and they come to an agreement to have sex with no strings!!!!
But sometimes rules don’t really work. Nik is fascinated by Lily’s joie de vivre and lovable demeanor and Lily finds herself wanting to be his favorite person………something she has always wanted to be.
Nik tries hard not to fall in love with Lily – she is of course head over heels in love with him.
Lily is like a breath of fresh air………the dialogue between the two is absolutely fabulous…Lily never stops talking – there’s no ;hidden agenda in her life. and Nik cannot resist her!!!! Yay!!!!
Nik & Lily’s HEA is sweet, emotional and witty………….and loved that she found her prince……
And just to end off my rave about these two adorable characters going off into the sunset after finding their HEA……..let me say that I, too…..

Now, Nik does not believe in love, in marriage and only does sex!!!!
So, what we have are two total opposites!!! What could possibly get Lily & Nik together???
Lily has a checklist for finding her perfect man!!!
”The problem is that she falls in love with all the wrong guys….she thinks that they fit the ticks in her boxes but instead turn out to be liars and cheats….just like her last boyfriend, who turned out to be married and never told her!!!
I know the basic qualities I need in a man to be happy. I never date anyone who doesn't score highly on my three points.”
''First, he has to be affectionate. I'm not interested in a man who can't show his feelings. Second, he has to be honest, but short of getting him to take a lie detector test I don't know how to check that one.
'I want a man with strong family values. He has to want a family.
Lily is going to take control of her life. Forget love…..she’s going to try rebound sex!!!

Review: Die Again: A Rizzoli & Isles Novel by Tess Gerritsen
Die Again: A Rizzoli & Isles Novel by Tess Gerritsen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Boston police Detective Jane Rizzoli and Forensic Pathologist Maura Isles are back.
The 11th book in Tess Gerritsen’s fantastic Rizzoli & Isles Series that grabs you from the first page….
Jane & Maura are investigation a bizarre and sinister murder of a well-known game hunter and taxidermist, who has been left gutted and hanging in his home.
It soon becomes clear that his murder may be linked to the disappearance of six tourists in the Okavango Delta six years previously.
Jane and her FBI husband travel to South Africa to persuade the lone survivor of the safari trip to help them identify the killer in Boston.
The settings are vividly written….you sense the danger of the African bush, you feel the menace that surrounds the safari group, the fear that the survivor feels.
The relationship between Jane & Maura– Jane, hot headed, smart tough and Maura, logical and clear headed - their differences are what makes them work so well. As Jane tells Maura…..
An intractably woven plot that switches from present day in Boston to six years ago in Botswana. The connection between the two narratives slowly unfolds with heart-pounding. Intense page turning that keeps you guessing until the very end.
Clever, action-packed filled with twists, turns and surprises until the last page!!!

The 11th book in Tess Gerritsen’s fantastic Rizzoli & Isles Series that grabs you from the first page….
In the slanting light of dawn I spot it, subtle as a watermark, pressed into the bare patch of dirt. Were it midday, when the African sun glares down hot and bright, I might have missed it entirely, but in early morning, even the faintest dips and depressions cast shadows, and as I emerge from our tent that lone footprint catches my eye. I crouch down beside it and feel a sudden chill when I realize that only a thin layer of canvas shielded us while we slept.

It soon becomes clear that his murder may be linked to the disappearance of six tourists in the Okavango Delta six years previously.
None of them have been seen again, except from one woman, who barely survived in the bush and who may be the only person who knows the killer, who may be continuing his killing spree in Boston.

We both chose this work because we’re not sunshine-and-ponies kind of gals.’ ”

Review: Motive: An Alex Delaware Novel by Jonathan Kellerman
Motive: An Alex Delaware Novel by Jonathan Kellerman
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
This was an ok read.......I have read all the books in this series but the last couple of ones have been a bit disappointing.
I don't feel the magic between Alex Elaware & Milos Sturgis that was there in the beginning.
The plot was set in the usual dark and sinister side of LA, which the author writes so well about.
I must admit that I never expected the revelation of the baddies at the end...so I guess JK still surprises me!!!

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
It was okay...not great.
I liked the characters and the storyline was interesting....but the story dragged a bit for me.
I didn't feel excited about the romance between Darius & Miranda.....
I am looking forward to Darius's brother's book!!!

Review: In Too Deep (Arcane Society, #10; Looking Glass Trilogy, #1) by Jayne Ann Krentz
In Too Deep by Jayne Ann Krentz
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I'm a huge fan of the Arcane Society Series and I enjoyed reading Fallon's story.
Sweet love story with a dash of the paranormal, which forms part of the series.
Nicely paced with lots of twists, turns and surprises, set in a really interesting little town....secrets abound!!!!!
I really like the way this series has evolved and I hope there are some more stories coming soon.

This was another disappointing read. I have enjoyed a few of this author's books but this was not one of them.
It wasn't exactly a horrible story...just a bit boring.
Boring plot, boring characters.
What a struggle it was to get to the END.

Wait just a minute....I have to quickly check how many gin & tonics I drank whilst reading Nolan & Chloe's story...
I kept rolling my eyes...this guy Nolan is alpha-male overkill!!!!! And Chloe...beyond sweet and cute!!!!!
Lots of sex scenes, which failed to "turn my buttons.." and the most ridiculous revelation of the villain..........by that part in the story, I was beyond crossed-eyed from so much eye-rolling......
I can't really recommend this book...rather get her Until Series which is fabulous
