Angels’ Share is the 2nd book in J R Ward's The Bourbon Kings series and continues the saga of the Bradford clan. I really liked the 1st book, The Bourbon Kings - see my review here... https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... and I was so looking forward to the next chapter AND DRAMA in the lives of Bradford Clan.

Angel's Share starts off where book #1 ended. Lane Bradford is having to deal with the fallout of the family's financial disasters. Lizzie and Lane are together. Now, I had this thing in my head that this book would be Edward, the older Bradford brother's story. But now, it's not!!!

It's somewhat a bit of everything and nothing!!! More about Lane and Lizzie. More about Edward and his emotional and traumatic life and his feelings for Shelby. And other characters that come to his ranch..........

Then there's Gin, the Bradford sister. This is a beyond damaged and broken woman!!! No, let's just say...the Bradfords......hell, they are damaged in some way or other!!! See, money does not make you happy!!!

Then there's the murder of the Bradford patriarch. And of course, the Baldwine nee
Bradford Mom now has dementia.............this family has more DRAMA than what one ever dreams of..............DRAMATIC ....DRAMATIC

The story never seemed to go anywhere and I also felt a lack of character development.

All these new characters are introduced.....seriously....most of the characters in this series are not very likeable........in fact, there are very few that I find remotely likeable
.....like Lane & Lizzie...but the one that interests me the most, is Edward. Hopefully the next book will be his.

Of course, I will be reading book #3.....are you kidding??? After that cliffhanger!!!

I have been addicted to this series since I read the 1st book, Dark Lover, in 2011. I have devoured each book and became totally obsessed with the characters.

But...........the last two or three books have been a total disappointment to me. I kept asking myself if I wanted to continue after the disastrous The Shadows..........but I still feel some kind of loyalty to the brothers and their families....and despite my surprise..........why another Rhage book???? Yes, this is one brother that I absolutely love!!!! But, seriously!!!!Wasn't one book enough?? Why not a novella like Z's Father Mine???? But who am I to question JR WARD????

I have to be honest here - and probably going to be "lynched" for diehard fans.....and yes, most of the reviews are 4 and 5 stars.........but seriously....I cannot lie!!!

I love Rhage and Mary and I am beyond devastated that their second book didn't do it for me.

Some parts that I did like:

Bitty - she was such a sweet kid. And her interaction with Rhage was really incredible.
Vishous - his feelings for Jane and watching his brothers with their children.

These are the parts that drove me absolutely batty:

The many times that I read about Rhage/Mary/Bitty going for a trip.....
Layla - after being one of her diehard fans........i'm now rethinking that.......what the hell is the matter with her??? She's behaving so stupidly!!
Xcor- hell, I never wanted him paired with Layla.....and still don't!!!
Assail - this whole thing of him and Throe!!! The sexual innuendos....blah blah blah!!!! Are u getting another Qhuinn & Blay scenario????
Jeez....all of a sudden........everyone is related to someone!!!! Xcor, Throe, Jo.....where does she come from????

Despite all my gripes, I did finish the book.......even though I had to put it down a few times and go back again and again.

Now, I am going off to wait for Xcor & Layla!!! I just hope I will be surprised in a nice way!!!!!

I gave up half-way the first time I started reading this book last year. I wasn’t feeling it…..
Giving it a second chance…..maybe my state of mind is different now and also I was about to start on The Beast…..

No, second time around and still not feeling it!!!!!
Bored out of my mind!!!! Should I keep turning the pages or not???? What a struggle it was to finally arrive at THE END!!!!

I love the BDB brothers but Trez & IAm ….just not into those two. And I couldn’t care about Trez & Selena and IAm’s HEA!!!

And then let me rant and rave about all those multiple storylines!!! After a while, I lost track of what and who was going on!!!!

To end this rant of mine off…..I have loved Layla from the beginning but in this book…..she was beyond stupid!!!! And forget my love in the past for Qhuinn!!! What a twit he’s turning out to be!!!!

Okay…..so am I going to give up on this series???? Probably not …..there are so many characters that I have come to love and hopefully the next book will set my blood on fire!!!!

Since the 1st book I read in your incredibly amazing BDB Series…..I have been hooked, addicted, obsessed, possessed, passionate…damn…..there are not enough words to describe how much I feel about the world and characters that you have created…………..you now have a fan in me for life…..

Why did I ever doubt that you would be able to continue that BDB magic?

Okay, let me just write down my thoughts and feelings about Blood Kiss, the 1st book in the Black Dagger Legacy Series, the spinoff of the original BDB Series.

I’m not going into the storyline here….by now, all the BDB fans and others know it….so, let’s get to what I loved about the story.

What a brilliant move! Not only do we connect with the brothers and their shellans that we have come to adore – bonus…. but we are now introduced to the new warrior recruits wanting to join the BIG TEAM!!!

And even when we have glimpses of past favorites, the storyline is told by only 4 different POV’s……..Craeg & Paradise (new recruits) and Butch and Marissa!! The focus is on these two couples which is really great….giving the readers an in depth look into these characters and their relationships.

The first couple….Craeg and Paradise, were really sweet and endearing. Paradise, glymera royalty, daughter of Wrath’s First Advisor and Craeg, a commoner. When the two meet during their training, more than sparks fly. Both feel a deep connection with each other and Craeg tries to fight his feelings for her because he believes he’s not good enough for someone like her. But Paradise wants more from the life that has been mapped out for her….

The more Craeg fights the feelings he has for Paradise, the more she pushes him…..I loved that their relationship wasn’t one of those insta-love things…..it grew with time and with both struggling to overcome the obstacles that faced them….

I adored Paradise…never mind that I thought her name was a bit “naff”…..she had strength and determination to do something worthwhile with her life, she had focus, and she was caring and looked out for the underdog. I loved her grit, willpower and her purpose to wanting something more than just being a spoilt and cosseted member of the glymera.
And the fact that she was not afraid to kick Craeg’s butt…….when he continued with his “I’m not good enough for you” shit….you go girl!!

I liked these two as a couple. I found them very engaging and endearing…..although…yes, there is one of those…..I wanted a bit more zing, more heat when they gave in to those emotions…you know what I mean….okay, the encounters were a bit….let’s just said…I wanted to feel the HEAT we have become familiar with of the BDB couples. Nevertheless, I enjoyed their moments together….

Now, onto Butch and Marissa…….
Butch is still a lovable character…still loves his designer wardrobe, which he doesn’t mind sharing with Craeg, who doesn’t have a wardrobe at all!!! He still kicks ass. He continues his connection and funny interaction with Vishous and he’s still totally over everything in love with his princess…Marissa. He still sees her as this Madonna…..in that high pedestal.
Their relationship is still strong but there are a few cracks that show up here. Their love for each other is really beautiful….


Marissa has truly grown and become a really strong person. She wants Butch to see the real her instead of the person he’s placed on a pedestal. I grew to love her even more….how she dealt with her estranged brother, Havers, how she dealt with the death of an unknown woman in the Safe House and how she’s coming out of her repressed shell….

My all time favorite scene in this book………the girls night….what a time the shellans had together watching…..yes, wait for it…MAGIC MIKE XX3

And the guys waiting outside the room……..discussing what the girls were doing? I was rolling on the floor…laughing my head off….

Oh, that’s Butch chasing Marissa after the movie!!!!
Loved the 1st training exercise that the brothers devised for the new recruits!!! Whew….action, unexpected surprises…..totally wicked….and of course Lassiter had a part in it too…

I love this angel!!! Please can we get his story SOON?????

The mystery serial killer subplot??? Yeah….a bit weak!!!! That’s probably the only “peeve” I have!!!

I so liked this book…….and I can’t wait for some more!!!

Well, JR Ward does it again!!!

Whether you like it, love it or hate it…..there’s no denying that it will have people talking and discussing her latest book, The Bourbon Kings!!! Oh,

I think the book title is totally brilliant!!!! Sexy, mysterious and so totally delicious!!!

So what category do I fall into? Well, let’s just say that it’s between I liked it and I loved it!!

Being an undying fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series, I was keen to find out what the author could do with a modern day version of Gone with the Wind!!!!!

An epic family saga set in the beautiful state of Kentucky, of southern drawls, rich and gorgeous men and beautiful women, bourbon and horses!!!! Of course, the lives of the Bradford’s also have a lot more!!!

The story started a bit slow for me….I wondered if I was going to continue or just give up like I did with The Shadows….but then my interest perked up….in fact, so much so that I found myself totally immersed into this world and couldn’t put the book down….kept me up until 4am, when I realized I had to sleep …just a few hours and then it was back to the world of the Bradfords!!! Was I sucked in??? You bet!!!

Drama..lots of it! Feuds, dirty family secrets, villains, tension, murder, betrayals, madness, power, greed….it’s a never ending soap opera!

What I loved

Lane Baldwine – this is a guy that has seen rock-bottom. Discarded, betrayed, lied to and who has made some really stupid decisions. But then, we see the side of him that made me really like him. He’s actually a good person, who has seen some really bad things in his life but ultimately makes the decision to take control of his life again. He’s the genuine hero. Kind, caring and dependable. And all he wants his to get back the women he has always loved and never forgotten…

Ms Aurora, who has been an anchor in Lane & Edward’s life. I was a bit puzzled why she didn’t have the same connection with the other brother, Max and the sister, Gin!!

Edward Baldwine– this is really a broken man in every way. What he endures in his life is beyond belief and yet, something deep inside his soul …..is still fighting to make sense of his situation. He got to me…the scene where he takes a bath …almost brought tears to my eyes. How does one survive the pain and torture he experienced and come through the other side!!! I can’t wait to learn about him.

Sutton Smythe, Edward’s lifelong friend and who he’s loved all his life. I want so much for them to be together….if anyone can heal Edward, it will be her….

Gin Baldwine, the only daughter in the Baldwine family – self-destructive, spoilt, lost, sad…..my heart bled for her. The scene where she’s packing her bags and pulling her bag….such desolation and loneliness. In love with a man who rejects her, despite his feelings for her. And the secret she carries……can’t wait for the fall-down when it’s revealed. Her life is unraveling before her very eyes.. she feels powerless and afraid.

“until this moment, she had assumed her family’s position was set in stone. now, she feared it might be sand.”

Shelby Landis – daughter of Jeb Landis, who arrives at Edward’s horse farm unexpectedly. Amazing character. I hope you get lots of her in the future. And I’m wondering what role is she going to play in Edward’s life!!!

The multi-POV’s gives you an insight into each character.
Loved how the author intertwines the multiple characters and subplots in the book.

The Kentucky setting was gorgeous, elegant, rich and steamy that had me dreaming of hot and languid summer days, mint juleps and bourbon naturally!!

The intrigues and shenanigans in the lives of privilege and wealth and how true the saying is that money does not bring happiness…well, at least not for
the Bradford dynasty!!

What didn’t do it for me

Lizzie King – So it’s like the movie Sabrina….gardener falls in love with employee’s son…..Okay, I didn’t exactly hate her but I found her distant and cold and too wrapped in herself….and I hated how she behaved towards Lane… after the manner in which she treated Lane and never gave him the benefit of the doubt…she continued doubt him and his love, even after all those times they shared since his return. She rejects him again….oh yes, when the truth is revealed, she offers to help him…even going as far as giving him her dearly beloved farm so he can have some money….plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz She better “jack” up in the next book or I will personally knock her down and beg Lane to get a woman who deserves him.!!!!!!

The lack of romance – did not feel an emotional a strong bond between Lane and Lizzie - it’s more one-sided. Lack of warmth and connection. I hope that these two characters will develop something deeper in the future.

The beginning of the book was a bit slow and I struggled with the first few chapters.

The final book in the Fallen Angels Series…and it so failed to impress me!!!! Everything comes together in this book…all tied up at last….and it so felt a bit flat for me!!! I really struggled to get through it…

This has not my favorite series by JR WARD…that title belongs to the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series….however there were some books that I did like… but mostly it’s been a bit of a hit and miss!!.

Here are some of my thoughts on this “fallen angels finale”:

1. I really liked Jim Heron, the savior of good, in the first two or three books, but my liking began to wan by the time he became so obsessed with Sissy that nothing else mattered top him….I was and still am unable to get “it”…they just don’t feel “right” to me!!! He’s suppose to feel so much for her and he still “does” it with evil Devina…oh yes, he has to do it to save the world…PLEEEEEZZZZ……and he’s even prepared to give one of his souls to her!!!!! Really!!!!! Even knowing that Devina is totally beyond besotted with him!!!! Totally weird!!!

2. Sissy…she just seemed too young and immature!!!! I just could not connect with her.

3. Adrian and all those archangels…they just got on my nerves…they were so “precious” and maddening..all those tea parties in heaven…..and an angel committing suicide!!!! What!!!!!

4. The romance between Jim & Sissy was so tepid!!!!

5. The Purgatory thingies…..yawn yawn yawn!!!!

6. The big Jim Heron revelation……..it didn’t make sense to me…..

What I loved was Devina!!!!!
What a surprise…right???? She’s supposedly the ultimate evilness…but you know what???? She never pretended to be anything else – she’s beyond OCD…check….

famous labels – wow, is there brand dropping or not? Chanel lipsticks and she’s totally obsessed with Jim Heron…her Achilles heel!!!!Still???? And here I believed it was her home possessions!!!!! I kind of saw something good under all her evilness!!!!! I would love to see her and Lassiter……getting together!!!! Maybe he’s the one to save her soul!!!!!!

Her therapist appointments made my day……… and my heart went to her as she cried her eyes out……..

and to see her lose everything…okay, she did manage to keep 1 shoe...why not let her keep both???? Damn cruel.....

If you’ve read the previous books in this series, then you should read this one….even though it left me a bit in the air…..was everything resolved or not????

I guess we will not be seeing the end of some of the characters in this series….who knows, they might just make an appearance in future Black Dagger Brotherhood books!!! Yes, please….Devina??????

Do I like The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series???? No, I MORE THAN LIKE IT………………

I have a secret to tell..….I was absolutely shattered after Lover at Last…..
…yes I did. I lost my all-time favorite boyfriend…
…yes, Qhuinn left me for someone else!!!!!
Anyway, I have moved on…..and what better way than…..yay….more about Wrath & Beth….i adore the King & Queen of all Vampires….


So, I get THE KING the day it comes out…I am so excited, over the moon…..


And by page 116….I give up…impossible!!!! How can this be??? This is my all time favorite series….I cannot continue…………..and for months I have avoided opening up page 117…….talk about confused!!!!

No, I have to go back …..I can’t give up…not now!!!!

Okay, page 117, 118….next page and well, it was kind of surprising but I actually finished THE KING!!!!

Did I love it???? Oooh, so sad…but wait, I did like it…just not my favorite …a real pity!!! Now, what was it exactly that it did not “snap and crackle” for me????

Was this not Wrath & Beth’s book??? That’s what I thought..instead there is not much happening here with these two………because we have all these other characters and couples that, IMHO just got in the way…..like..

Assail & Marisol…I get it…their story has to be set up for their future book..but did I have to get so much about them…allright, I like Marisol (hell, I hate the shortened version of Sola…her full name is gorgeous…), she’s a kickass exotic…a Brazilian thief….heroine with the most lovable grandmother….but then she’s in lust for Assail, who I HAVE NOT engaged with…never mind that he’s sexy, gorgeous and is nice to her grandmother and his family…he’s still a mobster and drug dealer…….it’s going to take a lot for him to redeem himself to me!!!

Then Trez, the Shadow and his HUGE LUST for the lovely and virginal Chosen, named Selena!!! Let me just say that he and his brother IAm have not done it for me in the previous books. Still uncertain about Trez…all that “pussy-footing” around Selena just got on my nerves so many times. However, I actually began to like I’AM…..in fact I found it totally endearing….how could I not if Boo (remember Beth’s cat!!) loves him!!!! Now, having been given the news that the next novel will be on the Shadow Brothers….not sure if I am that excited about it!!!!

Where are all the BDB brothers and their shellans??? A snip here and there…Xhex and JM….a few pages…a page or two with Tohrment…no Autumn…then a teaser with Zsadist and Bella……and nothing, okay a page or two with Qhuinn!!!!! Heartbroken!!!! Me, it was!!!!

And no action whatsoever….no Lessers, just the boring glymera characters!!!! Where are the fighting brothers????? I wanted more of my BDB heroes...


I was so pro-Layla before but this whole “work-up” romance with Xcor was a total disaster for me!!!!! I felt no connection between their one or two secret hook-ups….no, relax, the two haven’t done the deed yet!!!!! I still want her to be with someone else….I AM NOT A XCOR fan!!!!!

What redeemed this book from being..uhm….not a total loss was LW….LITTLE WRATH!!!!

I am beyond in love with this BDB Prince!!!! I want more of him in the future!!!! See, that’s why I am going to get the next book…..because of LW!!!!

One of my favourite parts in this book was when Lassiter “played” the pastor at Wrath & Beth’s “human” marriage ceremony………

“Okay, so, Beth, follow me. 'I, Beth, a totally awesome chick ...'"

Beth barked out a giggle. "I, Beth ..."

"Where's the 'awesome chick' part? What? Come on, I have a license from the Internet. I know what I'm doing."

Wrath nodded at his leehan. "He's right. You are, in fact, awesome. I think we need to hear it."

"Can I get an amen!" Lassiter shouted.

"Ammmmmmmmmen!" echoed throughout the mansion.

"Fine, fine, fine," she said. "I, Beth, a totally awesome chick ..."

"'... take this meathead, Wrath ...'"

"... take this meathead, Wrath ..."

"'... as my husband to have and to hold from this day forward...”

Lassiter….I so want his book….he’s so fabulous!!!!

“By the power vested in me thanks to Google, I know pronounce you husband and wife! You may kiss the bride!”

To end my long “tirade”, let’s just say…..not the best in the series but certainly not going to end my affair with BDB!!!!!!

I am a BIG fan of JR WARD and love her BDB Series and when I found her Fallen Angels Series, I couldn’t be happier. A fight between good and evil….with a bit of the BDB world thrown in!!! Can’t go wrong!!!!
I loved the 1st book, Covet and even liked book 2, Crave and book 3, Envy a lot. But when I arrived at book 4, Rapture…I was like…no, I don’t feel for this story!!! Not at all!!! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... .

Did that stop me from reading book 5??? No…..this is JR WARD…..Possession could not possibly be worse than Rapture!! Well, it’s not worse but it’s certainly not a WOW that I was so looking forward to!! Even a scene or two with Xhex and JM from BDB could make me happy…it actually made no impact to the story……it just felt “thrown” in to fill some pages!!!

Jim Heron, the good angel – who I started off liking in the beginning, really irritated me….his obsession with Sissy (the good person being held captive by the evil side) is beyond irrational. He makes a deal with evil Devina to save Sissy from hell, without thinking of the consequences. He floats all over the place without any purpose or aim, except SISSY, SISSY…when he should be finding the soul he has to save. He’s a total selfish idiot. I have some doubts where his relationship with Sissy will go.

I am not sure how I feel about Sissy yet……maybe I will warm up to her in the next book.

Adrian and all those angels and archangels….a tad boring!!! Same oh…same oh!!!

The soul or souls that need saving….Cait, the heroine, who was a bit weird at times…has to choose between the one good and the one evil brothers……….the whole thing between Cait, Duke and his evilish brother kept going …nowhere….I felt no romance between the tormented Duke and Cait….just a lot of sex!!

The parts I liked a lot….all the scenes with Evil Devina!!!

I just adore this character. Her insecurities and OCD behavior….her love for fashion and Laboutin shoes.................
and Chanel lipsticks…her hoarding….and her scenes with her therapist are to die for.

This is not a read again book and I am hoping next one will be more interesting.

This was such a boring story. I enjoyed the previous three books but book #4 .....had me thinking if I want to continue reading this series.

Mathias & Mels...so so boring.....he trying to be a good person and do the right thing....hell, wouldn't you if you were stuck in hell and were given a chance to move over to heaven????? Of course you would!
And Mels - geez...i can't find any words to write about her...let's just say that nothing about her grabbed me.

And what's going on with Jim Heron!!!! Where has the interesting and sexy angel disappeared to???? Even he tired me.

I was going to add something about the she-devil aka Devina...but too tired to think up words good enough to describe what I think about her!!!!

Yes, i arrived at THE END...and I will probably read the next book....this is JR WARD....my favourite author's series....so I can't be disloyal here!!

I just pray that book 5 will grab me!!!!!

REVIEW: Dead after Dark Anthologies by Sherrilyn Kenyon & JR Ward

Dead After Dark is anthology of novellas written by 4 different authors. I am not a fan of short stories but purchased this book solely for my ultimate all time favorite paranormal romance authors, JR WARD and SHERRILYN KENYON’s names on the cover.  

Of course I read their novellas first and struggled through the other two – not crazy about historical/futuristic books so I skimmed over quite a lot of pages, so it would be unfair for me to give a true review on those as I did not get totally into them.

The Story of Son by J.R Ward – my favorite

Blurb: Claire Stroughton is a beautiful lawyer who would rather spend the night with a legal brief than the man of her dreams. Then a routine client meeting turns dangerous—and deeply sensual—when she is held captive by a gorgeous man with an unworldly hunger…

I loved the story of Claire, the workaholic, career-orientated lawyer , who does not need a man in her life to define who she is and not for her the marriage, children thing, though she has nothing against that but just not for her.

Visiting one of her elderly clients who lives in a creepy Gothic mansion just outside Caldwell, NY (aha…BlackDaggerBrothehood I thought…but no, no link to those vampire males!!!), she is drugged and wakes up to find herself in a dark room with the most gorgeous male who tells her that his mother (her client, Mrs Leeds) has brought her to him so he can feed…yikes…a vampire!!! But hey, Claire is not your usual damsel in distress, believe me!!!!!  She will spend 3 days with him and then she will be let go not remembering anything about the incident.

Yet, as Claire learns about the cruelty and pain he has endured since he was 12 years old, when he was imprisoned by his wicked mother and her evil butler and discovering his tenderness, innocence and goodness and of course an unexplainable attraction she feels towards him, makes a decision that she will rescue Michael (the name she has given him as he reminds her of Archangel Michael) and get him away from the prison that has caused him such heartache and pain.

I was so touched by Michael…this kind, honorable, confused and tender person who never wants to hurt or cause pain to others despite the cruelty he has endured for the last 56 years …totally isolated from everything. He has never felt warmth and love until he meets Claire. A true virgin, romantic, tender hero who slowly learns that he is not the monster he has been led to believe.

The sex scenes (they do it a lot of times!!!!!) are so poignant, tender, sweet and so so HOT HOT….I knew they were meant to be together..real soul mates and could understand Claire’s determination to rescue Michael so that they could be together for eternity…whatever obstacles lay ahead, she never gives up.

Wished that this could have been a full length novel. There was so much more that I wanted to know about their lives but I was so so happy to see how Michael and Claire found their happiness together in the end. Talk about pulling my heartstrings!!!!!!

Romance

J.R Ward has created a vampire world, including the beyond popular BDB Series that is compelling, addictive, drawing you into this place of incredibly gorgeous, strong males and females like no other author has in the paranormal romance genre. Her writing is vivid, believable, so now!!!!   Whilst this story is not part of that series, I could easily see Michael and Claire with the brothers. Who knows…maybe one day!!!! I think they would fit in very nicely.

There is one thing that really bothered me though…..JR Ward  is amazing in creating the ultimate alpha-male…but I find her woman characters are a bit off-putting at times….I mean, Claire has felt like a “man in a woman’s body” when having sex with men until she meets Michael!!!!!  What, because she’s career-orientated!!!!!  The women in the BDB Series fare no better…they either doormats who stay in the shadows of their alpha-males or like Xhex, who is a warrior, is described as having a muscled body like a male with short, crew cut!!!!! Are there any in-between kinds of females who can be strong without thinking or looking like a man!!!! But this little gripe did not stop me from engaging with Claire.

I loved this touching and romantic story…a great plot, interesting and endearing characters.

I love Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series and have read most of most of the books. I was glad that I finally found Fury’s book….he’s part of the Kattalakis pack and I have always wanted to know more about him.

I would have preferred to read a full length book on him but half way through the story I changed my mind. Why???

The beginning is really great. I liked meeting up again at Sanctuary with Dev, Vane (Fury’s brother? And his wife Bride and son………they are such an awesome couple… but after meeting Angelia, a human-wolf who hates wolf-humans even though she and Fury had been such close friends when they were younger. I hated her!!!!! How could she allow Fury to be tortured the way he was by members of her team????

I thought Fury was a great male/wolf….he experienced rejection, cruelty, pain not only from the Arcadians but he was despised and rejected by his own mother. I couldn’t believe how he could have gone through when he had been attacked and left for dead by Angelia, that he could still forgive her and protect her from danger!!!! A true loyal friend who has always loved her!!!!!

She infuriated me even more as she blew hot and cold towards Fury….I hate you, I love you, I want you, I don’t want you!!!!!!! Make up your mind girl!!!!! Maybe if it had been a longer story and I discovered more things about her, I might have been more inclined to like and think her as being Fury’s true mate

Despite this moan, I did enjoy the story and if you are a fan of the series you should read it.

REVIEW: LOVER ENSHRINED by JR WARD

I only discovered JR WARD’s books early this year and had no idea what this series was about but I found some of her books on a special price section of my local bookstore and finding the covers and titles quite different and interesting…I thought? Why not? So I bought the first 4 books in the series. 

I became totally addicted. I couldn’t stop reading….as soon as I finished the one I began on the next and before I got to the 4th book I had bought the entire series. 
What fascinates me about her books is that each one has different plot lines, different POV’S, sub-plots and there are secondary characters that we meet and continue to grow so one has a sense of getting to know a little bit more about them and kept in suspense of WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT!!!! 

This book is the 6th book in the series and it’s not really one of my favorites..I am not saying I didn’t like it it’s just that It’s Phury and Cormia’s story but it does not focus that much on them. There is so much happening with other characters that you kind of lose track of their story … 
Phury is very different to the brothers in the previous books. He’s an angst-ridden, artistic, guilt ridden by being secretly in love with Zsadist’s (his twin brother)shellan, Bella, He has spent his life- hundreds of years - making sacrifices for others even giving up one of his legs and celibacy to save Zsadist from slavery and torture. His struggles with his addiction to red smoke and then onto to heroin which nearly kills him.. He’s so out of control that Wrath kicks him out of the Brotherhood….which I thought was pretty grim…even his own brother turned against him. 
Being the person he is…self-sacrificing ---always putting others before himself…doing everything for others safety, even the cost to his life, he volunteers to take Vishous place as Primale to the Chosen so that V can stay with Jane. 
Phury will now have to mate with one of the Chosen to continue the pure line of the next generation of the Chosen and the Brotherhood. His first duty is to mate with Cormia, one of the Chosen who we met in Lover Unbound, who is sweet and gentle and falls in love with him despite his problems…she, sees the other side…how noble and great person he is. But despite knowing he’s in love with Bella, she wants his love and body for herself and no one else, not even to share with the other Chosen. 
Phury soon realizes that he wants only Cormia but can he forsake his duty as a Primale? Their journey takes quite a turn and Phury finally finds a purpose in his life and a solution to the problem with the Chose. …. absolutely amazing. I really admired his courage in not giving up on something he believed was right and moral. He finally finds joy and peace in his life with the woman he loves at his side. The sensuality between them is pure and hot…the real hot scenes happen more between the secondary characters. . I would have loved to see a bit more romance in the story. 

Lots of side plots going on in this book…...I really liked the part where we meet the new brothers..John Mathews who goes through his transition, Qhuinn …love this brother…hot hot….and Blay…..a bit bland…. Just love these sexy, gorgeous guys….black leather, designer labels, the talk..wow…wish I could meet one of them!!!!! It’s another world out there..….exciting, dangerous, dark and oh so cool!!!!!I couldn’t wait to read more about them in the next books…I just know we will get to know them really well. 
Then there’s Bella’s brother Rhev, a sinful looking sympathy, dealer of drugs who owns a nightclub and wears a long sable coat…..he’s a dark and interesting character. 
The lesser are back with a bang….lots of action, fights… a new leader called X and Lash …what a depraved guy!!!! There’s bound to be more about him in the next books. 
And Xhex, the amazon who works at Rhev’s club –wow what a woman!!! I actually believed that she was a gay woman….why I am not sure…just she is so strong, remote, complex and shows no interest in the men around her….I loved her character….sure she will appear in her own book soon….. 

I liked this book much more the second time I read it. I felt a bit more connected to Phury and Cormia’s HEA than the first time I read it 

What I love about this series is the great, strong dialogue and the way the writer makes me feel that I am actually there…I can see the white colors in the Fade, feel the softness of that sable coat –….you can see, smell, taste, feel and hear everything in her books. 
I am so crazy for this series that I read each book over and over again and find them just as exciting as the first time I read them. 

REVIEW: LOVER AVENGED by JR WARD

Lover Avenged is the 7th book in JR Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood Series and it’s the story of Rehvenge – Rehv and Ehlena. Although he is not a member of the BDB, his life is closed entwined with theirs and he is also fiercely loyal to the brothers and their families. 
Rhev struggled his whole life being half Sympath and half vampire. Sympaths are a really scare race and most people are afraid of him and keep well away when he is present at any place. Very few people know what he really is. He suppresses his sympathy side by frequent shots of dopamine at Havers clinic and it is during one of these visits that he meets Ehlena, a vampire nurse who is the only person he has met that is not uncomfortable around him and who shows no fear being with him. 

Rhev has appeared in previous books and I have to admit that I never thought there would be a book about him. I mean he’s a drug lord, owns a club where he sells drugs and he’s not a brother. But in this story we learn that he’s been protecting those he loves for years and we begin to see that he’s a noble and caring person. He is being blackmailed by a woman – omg talk about a scary and evil person…..she must be the wickedest woman I have ever read about!!!! The reason he continues to pay her in money and sick and depraved sex is to keep Xhex (who is also sympathy – more about her later!) and himself from their true sympathy nature being discover which would result in them being banished to the sympathy colony…another horrible sick place… He feels debased, dirty and what woman would understand the things he has done in his life. 

I liked Ehlena. She is devoted to taking care of her ailing father, who has Alzheimer’s and her life has been a daily struggle since they were both ostracized from the glymera (royal vampires) . She is strangely attracted to Rhev but keeps turning down his attempts to get to know her. Why I have no idea!!!! He’s such a gorgeous man!!! The fur coat, cane and blue Mohawk hair….wow! But in the end she discovers his truth about him and stands by him.. , even prepared to die for him. 
The relationship between the two is so heartwarming that you want them to have a HEA…and they do despite having to go through hell to get there…being kidnapped, deaths and those pesky lessers getting in between the action. 

One of the things I like about this series is that characters from the previous books continue appearing so you have the sense of knowing them and learning more about them. 

Wrath and Beth appear and Vishous prophecy about Wrath going blind is coming true. You can feel the pain and fear that Wrath is experiencing as he comes to term that there is no cure and he will eventually become a totally blind King. 

There's Xhex and John Mathews whose story will feature in the next book... 

Lash, the ex BDB brother who we discover is a lesser and son of the evil Omega is up to his old tricks. He is really wicked. 

Tohr, whose wife Wellsie was killed is trying to cope with her death and keeping sane. 

I loved this book. There is so much emotion, it’s fast paced and I was totally engrossed in each page I read. 

REVIEW: LOVER UNBOUND by JR Ward

Lover Unbound is the 5th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. 
I have read all the previous books in the series and have mixed feelings about Vishous. His conflicting feelings towards Butch….which he hates himself for turned me off him a bit in the previous books. 
So I was really happy when he found Jane, a doctor who saved his life and he falls in love with her. .….enough of his pining over Butch….funny how fast he falls in love even when he has such an intense lust for Butch!!!! But hey, this is just a story…right!!!!! 
As I got more into the story, my feelings towards Vishous slowly began to change. What a broken man. A life filled with pain, cruelty, heartbreak, loss and loneliness . Discovering the truth about his birth, his mother (who put a curse on him) and terrible father (who tortured and almost castrated him)….I really felt so sorry for this guy….. No wonder he led such a depraved life….multiple sex with both men and women, indulging in S&M in his belief that it was the only way to deal with pain. 
Of course Jane falls in love with this hot, gorgeous and sexy man. And he….well he’s attracted to her brain and body of course!!!!! And she is an eager initiator to his sexual games and toys!!!!!! 
The only thing I really didn’t like …………..Why did Jane have to die???? Somehow her coming back as a ghost (thanks to the sacrifice Vishous made…..couldn’t his mother, the Scribe Virgin get her back as a human….she is after all a deity!!!!!). 
After everything Vishous has endured in his life, he is still short-changed. I wanted to see him having some good given to him…but no……he has to do with the woman he loves in the form of a ghost!!!!!! How much more can this guy endure!!!!!! 
There’s a lot happening in this story… more wicked Lessers. Phury’s depression and secret love and pining for Bella, Zhadist’s (his brother) wife, his offer to become Primale to the Chosen…..will he and Cormia, a beautiful innocent Chosen get it together>>….what will the Scribe Virgin do next???? …is John Mathews really into Xhex???? And yes I knew all along….John Mathews is he Darius’s son or incarnation???? And when are Qhuinn & Blaylock going to get it together???? Gay warriors….wow…how are the other alpha warriors going to take this I wonder????? 
Guess I will have to wait for the next book!!!!!!!
