A Deal Before the Altar by Rachael Thomas
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is the author’s debut novel for Mills & Boon and I so wanted to like A Deal before the Altar – to check out a new and fresh voice!!!
I felt a bit let down! It wasn’t a terrible read but didn’t pull my strings!!!!
The storyline was interesting with a twist at the end but I wanted to feel a bit more passion and sizzle between the hero and heroine…which I so not felt.
I found the heroine, Georgina Henshaw a bit cold and remote….okay, she wanted to protect her sister’s happiness…a bit of a martyr!!!! No, just being nasty myself!! I actually admired her for what she thought would be the right thing for her sister, Emma, who in my mind was a bit selfish and childish!!!
Santos Ramirez, the hero….I don’t know!!! He was okay I suppose!!
So, these two people have a lot of baggage, parents who don’t deserve to have children….dysfunctional people one could say…but then who doesn’t carry baggage in their lives!!!
You see, if Georgina and Santos had sat down and discussed their issues and insecurities together…all the angst and tension could have been avoided!!! But no, the conflict and tension continues and continues!!!! Drama! Drama! Melodramatic galore!!!
But I did like the way the whole Emma and Santos’s brother Carlos was resolved. It was believable!! Surprising!!! And not what I was expecting.
Not a great read but not a bad one either!! I will give this author another try!!!
