Review: Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter (Goodreads Author)

Pretty GirlsPretty Girls by Karin Slaughter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am a big fan of Karen Slaughter and her Grant County and Will Trent Series are one of my favorite crime/thriller series.

Pretty Girls is one of her standalone books and it was quite a disturbing and sad story.

The chilling prologue pulled me immediately into this story.

What happens when someone in your family disappears and is never found again? That’s what happens to the Carroll family, when their eldest daughter vanishes without a clue, without a reason.
The family is shattered and results in a total breakdown between them that will never be repaired.

Nothing prepared me for the outcome of that terrible tragedy that forever changed not only the parents but the two daughters left behind. I kept waiting for something good to happen to these destroyed characters and seeing more and more misfortune come their way was so not damn right.

The secrets the family have are so devastating when revealed. And then, there are those letters that the father writes to his lost daughter…….geez, talk about heartbreaking….

“Your mother and I had always been secretly pleased that you were so headstrong and passionate about your causes. Once you were gone, we understood that these were the qualities that painted young men as smart and ambitious and young women as trouble.”

This is not a sweet and romantic suspense story….it’s scary, it’s frightening, it’s sad……what more can I add?

Just that it’s a really good book and I can definitely recommend it.

One of the quotes that grabbed me”
“Optimism is a sliver of glass in your heart.”
