A Pawn in the Playboy’s Game by Cathy Williams was one of those books that I was hoping would be really exciting!A sexy notorious Italian businessman, who meets an interesting schoolteacher in the Scottish Highlands…..just my kind of story!
But sadly…it just didn’t live up to my expectations.
Alessandro Falcone…and Italian hero…yay…but no, this guy is so not the usual Italian I have come to expect!! The only thing Italian is his name!!! The rest is totally an Englishman!!! Though I have to say that one of the things that made this book bearable was his dialogue between himself and the book characters. It had me in stitches most of the time!!! This is one uber alpha-male….cynical, clinical, detached (well, not so much as what he projects…) and he always has the upper hand!!!
The heroine, Laura , small town girl, back from her short stint in London, after experienced what the city guys are all about….is now a teacher at the small village school and totally off city playboys!!
I did like the secondary characters….Laura’s grandmother and Alessandro’s father…in fact they were a total hoot!
But I struggled turning the pages….I wanted to dialogue…a bit more sexiness….but despite me having to do this a few times….
The story just moved so slowly…..I wanted more of Alessandro and Laura….instead of pages and pages of just unnecessary information.
An okay read but certainly not a keeper!
