Reaver is the 3rd book in Larissa Ione’s Lords of Deliverance series, a fabulous spinoff of her just as fantastic Demonica Series.
The book opens with a short prologue that gives us a glimpse of Reaver & Harvester’s lives as angels in Heaven. They have no memories of the connection they had all those thousands of years ago.
Reaver once a Fallen Angel has been “upgraded” to full angel status has become the good watcher of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who he discovers are his children.
Harvester has been playing the bad Fallen Angel for thousands of years, working on Satan’s side to bring down the Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
But at the last moment, she betrays Satan by stopping the Apocalypse, which lands her in big trouble. Now stuck in Hell, where she’s being tortured on a massive scale, with no means of escaping in sight.
There’s no love lost between Reaver & Harvester – did she not want to kill his children???? – but then she does the unthinkable……..actually sacrifices herself to save their lives and the world!!!!! Not only that but he discovers that it’s not the only sacrifice she has made……..the truth is that she had volunteered to becoming a Fallen Angel and working as a spy in the demon realm of Sheoul. for Heaven….Reaver is determined to save her and against Heaven orders, travels to Hell to rescue her. Nothing will stop him…….
“So," he said, "you really think having archangels string you up by your halo is worth saving this Harvester chick?"
"She saved the world"
Wraith shrugged. "So did I, but I don't see you offering up your holy ass to save me."
"Are you suffering unspeakable horrors at the hands of Satan?"
"No," Wraith said, "but sometimes I have to eat the hospital cafeteria food.”
Their escape journey is both terrifying and enlightening as they fight the darkness of Hell filled demons and memories of their past that surface, and the feelings and emotions that develop between them.
“That's my girl," he murmured.
"I'm not your girl."
"Well," he said not bothering to hide his smile from her sightless eyes, "the good news is that the honey gave you back your sparkling personality."
"And the bad news?"
"The honey gave you back your sparkling personality.”
These two broken characters, star-crossed lovers that we always meant to be together…
“Fine,” he said. “You’re right. We’re not normal. We’re the most fucked-up, star-crossed lovers in history. So let’s not play nice.”
Witty dialogue….
“I suggested that someone grab Bill Gates and get him to install a new operating system, but apparently he's not a demon" At Reaver's eye roll she nodded. "Right? I was surprised too.”
Suspense, action, friendship and memorable characters and a world so vividly detailed.
A beautiful and emotional journey of forgiveness, love and redemption.
I adored Reaver & Harvester and loved seeing them discovering each other again and finding their HEA.
“All she'd ever wanted was to be good, so it was ironic that in order to do good, she'd had to become bad. She'd had to make everyone she cared about hate her. She'd had to lose everything, from her self-respect to her wings to her dreams of having friends and a family with Yenrieth, the only person she'd ever loved.”
