Review: The Darkest Touch (Lords of the Underworld, #11) by Gena Showalter

The Darkest Touch (Lords of the Underworld, #11)The Darkest Touch by Gena Showalter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Gena Showalter has created a spectacular world, dark and complex characters so beautifully detailed in her long-running The Lords of the Underworld series and her latest novel, The Darkest Touch, the 11th book, is as refreshing and breathtaking as from the start of book #1.
Torin, the demon of Disease has been a fascinating character from the first time we met him….
photo 05_Butterfly_in_smoke_zps0b0c39df.jpga warrior, loyal, lonely, unable to get close to or touch anyone due to what is demon is able to do…..
 photo f61475e3aa3c7a3255ca33538805c909_zpsa4d1556b.jpg
His life is about to change when he meets fellow prisoner, Keeleycael, The beautiful and powerful Red Queen.
photo f2ddb66b2ca7930416b3a9d47eb18937_zps2804ecc4.jpg. I loved this character….bad tempered, fierce, intelligent, sassy and totally awesomely adorable…did I mention that her hair color changes with the seasons…that’s right…from dark to light…
 photo daa11b41197b272e913a1de0ab5cf389_zps744f8a9b.jpg
The Red Queen. No wonder the immortals in the skies had merely whispered about her. Insane? Cruel? Hell, yeah. They’d probably assumed saying her name aloud would have a Beetlejuice effect and actually summon her.

The sexual tension and chemistry between these two is totally sizzling…
 photo a2d0255ae40fb422d30115c1608c3e2a_zps0a760cf1.jpg
Torin is lost….resisting her is the hardest thing he has ever had to do….if he gives in, his touch could mean her death.

Keeley, who has been around…married to a brutal guy, then betrayed by Hades…no, this girl does not trust men!!! But Torin is not like other men, she soon discovers……she cannot keep away from him…as they travel through the realms of the breathtaking and so well detailed world that the author has created.
Amazing writing, compelling plot and incredible dialogue that is witty and totally sparkling….
“You’ll experience agony in ways you’ve never dreamed possible. for I’ll do to you what I’ve done to so many others. I will skin you with a cheese grater and stuff your organs into a blender to make a smoothie. I will donkey punch your skull so hard your brain will ooze out of your eye sockets.”
The first part of the story is Torin and Keeley, which I liked but half-way….that’s what I loved - when they both arrive at the Lords of the Underworld’s home in Budapest!!! That’s when I jumped for joy!!!
Checking in with characters we have come to know from the previous books, which I have sorely missed, and the action and suspense and laughter and more laughter….the interaction between Keeley and Anya is amazing….a grin on my face every time these two got together!!!

New characters…loved the Lord’s kids… new revelations…..and still on the trail of that elusive Pandora’s Box!!!!

Gena Showalter never fails ….the series just gets better and better…….I can’t wait for the next book….maybe Cameo…the only demon-possessed female…I would love to read her story!!!!
Lords of the Underworld ROCK!!!!

Review: Exit Strategy (Nadia Stafford, #1) by Kelley Armstrong

Exit Strategy (Nadia Stafford, #1)Exit Strategy by Kelley Armstrong
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am a huge fan of Kelley Armstrong and it was a real surprise finding her new series that is nothing like her others, namely paranormal romance.

Introducing a new kick-ass protagonist, Nadia Stafford, ex cop turned hit woman/assassin of bad guys, we are taken into a world of criminals, assassins, spies filled with suspense and mystery.

Nadia Stafford, dishonorably retired from a Canadian police force for shooting a suspect dead, now owner of a lakeside lodge in the Canadian wilderness and part-time assassin for hire. I really engaged with her character. She’s strong, independent but has a soft side that makes her really likeable.

Teaming up with her mentor, Jack, they are thrown into a dangerous chase to finding a hit-man turner serial killer.

Compelling and suspenseful story-line with complex and mysterious characters and the dark world of crime, corruption, betrayal and even a bit or romance…..

An interesting start to the series.

Review: Mr. Beautiful (Up in the Air, #4) by R.K. Lilley

Mr. Beautiful (Up in the Air, #4)Mr. Beautiful by R.K. Lilley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved this series and it’s definitely on my favorite books list. So what could be more exciting than getting more of James & Bianca!!!

Let’s start with the cover of Mr Beautiful…….OH MY….beyond gorgeous…….I loved it!!!
I was looking forward to reading James POV, which we get here…but then we also have Stephen’s POV...now don’t get me wrong….I adored Stephan…who wouldn’t want a friend like him??? But having the two POV’s was really a distraction for me. But it was great seeing him finding true happiness and love with Javier!!!

I was waiting for on more of Bianca & James’s life after Grounded…but Mr Beautiful is like a rehash of the previous books really…..okay, let’s just say that the last couple of chapters did have something new…which I found pretty fabulous….James will have his hands full with his offsprings!!!! No way are they going to…. photo c1e32bec7bfa8458898bcc067bdac502_zps18541e90.jpg

Besides that little moan….there was some things I loved….….

…getting more of James Cavendish….this is one of my favorite book boyfriends…
 photo e25ce4f8fdcad46a25aba386d32d9476_zpsa63841b2.jpg

……connecting again with the best ever flight attendant…no wait…I’m the best…Bianca comes a close second….

….James & Bianca’s simply gorgeous wedding…. photo 311c36d41187ef01a70c53a2ff4818e7_zps1cb8a401.jpg

The biggest “gripe”….Mr Beautiful just ended…and I still had loads of pages left on my reader…what’s going on!!! Then I get it…all these epilogues for all the other books in the series!!!! I must be honest…I did not read any of them….I wanted more of Mr Beautiful……

So, it’s au revoir to James, Bianca, Stephan and the gang!!!

It’s been lovely knowing you!!! How about some stories of their kids????? Wishful thinking I suppose!!!!

A short, lovely and sweet epilogue to Breathe, one of my favorite books https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... . I loved seeing Jay & Linc happy together and that Linc’s sister, Nancy is also getting her life together.

Linc & Jay are such a beautiful couple…absolutely adored them. Hopefully we see them again!!!

Thanks to the author for the free read!!!

Review: First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1) by Jeaniene Frost

First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1)First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love Jeaniene Frost's The Night Huntress series and I was so excited that Slade, Bone’s best friend, was finally getting his own book.
Slade was always an interesting character in TNH series….gorgeous, mysterious…not as outgoing as Bones but still as fabulous!
 photo 178024ca16ab2c85de04bdfe49df22e4_zps7a68db3f.jpg

The Night Huntress World series, the spin off from The Night Huntress series starts with First Drop of Crimson and follows Spade and Cat’s best friend, Denise’s story.
Denise has been marked by a demon and Spade helps her track down the demon and her ancestors, who play a role on her being “terrorized” by the very bad and seemingly indestructible demon.
I loved the tension and attraction between the two of them. They are such a good match.
I enjoyed their back-story and how much they helped each other.
Cat & Bones make an appearance…which gave me my C&B fix!!!!!
If you like the Night Huntress series, you will love this one!!!

Review: The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #12) by J.R. Ward

The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #12)The King by J.R. Ward
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3,5 stars
Do I like The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series???? No, I MORE THAN LIKE IT………………
 photo Black_Dagger_Brotherhood_by_AidanG_zps4b42bafe.jpg

I have a secret to tell..….I was absolutely shattered after Lover at Last….. photo wnoy5_zps6vkuydj5.gif
…yes I did. I lost my all-time favorite boyfriend… photo 58149773fb8f3eee55d2c5550a8a61df_zps0d57f9b6.jpg
…yes, Qhuinn left me for someone else!!!!!
Anyway, I have moved on…..and what better way than…..yay….more about Wrath & Beth….i adore the King & Queen of all Vampires….
 photo BannerBooksBlackDaggerBrotherhoo-26_zps68eb84cd.jpg

So, I get THE KING the day it comes out…I am so excited, over the moon…..
 photo 351af7d0-a0c4-4e29-8e49-2d00896c1134_zpsf5de6702.png

And by page 116….I give up…impossible!!!! How can this be??? This is my all time favorite series….I cannot continue…………..and for months I have avoided opening up page 117…….talk about confused!!!!

No, I have to go back …..I can’t give up…not now!!!!

Okay, page 117, 118….next page and well, it was kind of surprising but I actually finished THE KING!!!!

Did I love it???? Oooh, so sad…but wait, I did like it…just not my favorite …a real pity!!! Now, what was it exactly that it did not “snap and crackle” for me????

Was this not Wrath & Beth’s book??? That’s what I thought..instead there is not much happening here with these two………because we have all these other characters and couples that, IMHO just got in the way…..like..

Assail & Marisol…I get it…their story has to be set up for their future book..but did I have to get so much about them…allright, I like Marisol (hell, I hate the shortened version of Sola…her full name is gorgeous…), she’s a kickass exotic…a Brazilian thief….heroine with the most lovable grandmother….but then she’s in lust for Assail, who I HAVE NOT engaged with…never mind that he’s sexy, gorgeous and is nice to her grandmother and his family…he’s still a mobster and drug dealer…….it’s going to take a lot for him to redeem himself to me!!!

Then Trez, the Shadow and his HUGE LUST for the lovely and virginal Chosen, named Selena!!! Let me just say that he and his brother IAm have not done it for me in the previous books. Still uncertain about Trez…all that “pussy-footing” around Selena just got on my nerves so many times. However, I actually began to like I’AM…..in fact I found it totally endearing….how could I not if Boo (remember Beth’s cat!!) loves him!!!! Now, having been given the news that the next novel will be on the Shadow Brothers….not sure if I am that excited about it!!!!

Where are all the BDB brothers and their shellans??? A snip here and there…Xhex and JM….a few pages…a page or two with Tohrment…no Autumn…then a teaser with Zsadist and Bella……and nothing, okay a page or two with Qhuinn!!!!! Heartbroken!!!! Me, it was!!!!

And no action whatsoever….no Lessers, just the boring glymera characters!!!! Where are the fighting brothers????? I wanted more of my BDB heroes...
 photo tumblr_static_tumblr_static__1280_zps7622a3bf.jpg

I was so pro-Layla before but this whole “work-up” romance with Xcor was a total disaster for me!!!!! I felt no connection between their one or two secret hook-ups….no, relax, the two haven’t done the deed yet!!!!! I still want her to be with someone else….I AM NOT A XCOR fan!!!!!

What redeemed this book from being..uhm….not a total loss was LW….LITTLE WRATH!!!!
 photo 7c11824fe77b40af152eaaff37dcaad6_zps5d30987c.jpg
I am beyond in love with this BDB Prince!!!! I want more of him in the future!!!! See, that’s why I am going to get the next book…..because of LW!!!!

“A soooooooooooooooooooooon! I'm having a sooooooooooooooooooooooooon!”

One of my favourite parts in this book was when Lassiter “played” the pastor at Wrath & Beth’s “human” marriage ceremony………
“Okay, so, Beth, follow me. 'I, Beth, a totally awesome chick ...'"

Beth barked out a giggle. "I, Beth ..."

"Where's the 'awesome chick' part? What? Come on, I have a license from the Internet. I know what I'm doing."

Wrath nodded at his leehan. "He's right. You are, in fact, awesome. I think we need to hear it."

"Can I get an amen!" Lassiter shouted.

"Ammmmmmmmmen!" echoed throughout the mansion.

"Fine, fine, fine," she said. "I, Beth, a totally awesome chick ..."

"'... take this meathead, Wrath ...'"

"... take this meathead, Wrath ..."

"'... as my husband to have and to hold from this day forward...”

Lassiter….I so want his book….he’s so fabulous!!!!
“By the power vested in me thanks to Google, I know pronounce you husband and wife! You may kiss the bride!”

To end my long “tirade”, let’s just say…..not the best in the series but certainly not going to end my affair with BDB!!!!!!

Review: Friday Night Bites (Chicagoland Vampires, #2) by Chloe Neill

Friday Night Bites (Chicagoland Vampires, #2)Friday Night Bites by Chloe Neill
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed Some Girls Bite, which was a great debut in Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires Series and I was looking forward to Merit’s next adventure.
I am not sure if I am totally into this series…..Friday Night Bites was a bit of a disappointment for me.

Nothing exciting or new happening here….…it’s once again:

The House of Cadogan is betrayed by one of their own
Merit continues to irritate me to no end……so many times I wanted to tell her…”grow up!!”
The relationship between Ethan Sullivan & Merit doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. He’s still irritated by her (ooh I can so understand you Ethan!!) and Merit goes from hating him to the next moment of lust for the gorgeous vampire
Merit can’t make up her mind between Ethan and Morgan, the other vampire master from Navarre House. I did like Morgan in the beginning but near the end, he become so petulant...okay, I get it’s not so great that Merit keeps him “dangling”…but his behavior is so childish a times.

I felt a lack of character development, action with a very long drawn out storyline.

I was looking for a bit of romance, which there is none whatsoever.

It's not that I hated this book, just not loved it....
But there is something that keeps me interested in this series and I am going to read the next book and hopefully it will be a bit more exciting for me.

Review: I'll Find You by Nancy Bush

I'll Find YouI'll Find You by Nancy Bush
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book, though it did take a while for me to get into it.

It has a good storyline with some unexpected twists and turns and quite an unexpected villain revelation at the end...that I never saw coming.

There are a lot and I mean a lot of characters in the story, most of them not likeable at all – I did however, adored the little boy, Tucker! He was such a lovable character that endeared him to me so much.

Although I liked the mc’s – Callie Cantrell & West Laughlin, I did feel a lack of sexual tension between the two.....their romance seemed to drag on and on.

I good and solid suspense/mystery story with a touch of romance.

Review: he Escape (John Puller #3) by David Baldacci

The EscapeThe Escape by David Baldacci
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The 3rd book in David Baldacci’s John Puller Series, about former war hero and now one of the best military investigators in the US Army's Criminal Investigative Division.

I liked the 1st book, Zero Day https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... and liked the 2nd even more https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... and was very happy to get into book #3.

John Puller faces the most difficult and personal assignment, when he’s given the task of finding and arresting his older brother, Robert, a former major in the USAF, who had been found guilty of treason and given a life sentence, and has under mysterious and dubious circumstances escape from the maximum prison he has been incarcerated for the last two years.
Fast paced, action packed and complex plot with some surprising twists and turns that keeps you on your toes.

I really like John Puller and his brother is a very interesting and complex character that I hope we get more of in future books. I enjoyed their closeness and the interaction between the two is believable and also getting some back-story of their lives when they were younger.

I wasn’t crazy about Veronica Knox…the underhand way she behaved and I just never got her!!! Undercover, military, CIA …….a bit too cold for me!!!!

One of the things that bamboozled me….all those acronyms….after I while, I just skimmed over what they were and what they meant…because there were just LOADS of them………

A good read and I am looking forward to John Puller’s next adventure!!!

Review: Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires #1) by Chloe Neill

Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires #1)Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I am always on the look-out for a good urban fantasy/vampire series, so when one of my good GR friends recommended Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires Series to me, I decided to give it a try.

Some Girls Bite is the first novel of the series and what I discovered is this author’s debut novel.

A fresh new take on vampires….they are now out of the “closet”…..it’s official….vampires have announced their existence to humans…twelve vampire houses set up in the USA….and this series tells the adventures of Chicago graduate student, Merit…yes, like Rhianna, Madonna, Pink, etc…..goes by one name only…her other names remain a mystery throughout the story….. who is attacked by a rogue vampire and lucky for her, her human life is saved by the ultra master vampire, Ethan, who is in charge of Cadogan House, situated in an upper class suburb of Chicago!!! Hey, these are rich and wealthy vampires…..and of course, the house is so totally fab… photo tumblr_m399sdOUkC1qkzij1o1_500_zps43ac447b.jpg
What a perfect setting…..windy, cold and dark with loads of things going bump into the night…… photo download_zps7662e2ce.jpg

Merit is a normal woman, quite happy with her life as a student despite being in not good terms with her beyond rich and well-known family….
 photo Holloway_C_D_zps48949d0a.jpg

but waking up as a vampire…is so not for her… she’s not exactly thrilled being turned into a vamp…..
“I swore an oath. I’m not happy to be a vampire. It’s not the life I’d have picked. But it’s mine now, and I’ll honor that.”
but she has two choices in her new “undead” life…either become a member of Cadogan House or face being ostracized by all vampires and become a rogue…which is literally a life so not a good option……WHAT, ARE YOU CRAZY MERIT!!!! Immortality and you get to become a kick-ass, Katanga sword-wielding Sentinel with a wardrobe to die for…….
 photo somgirlsbite_neill_zpsa114afba.jpg
…really, I will trade places with you!!!!!! All that and I get the most gorgeous, sexy, mysterious and hot Ethan Sullivan as my master and liege!!!!
 photo ded6790e9b805d36cb72f48eaadbc0ff_zps51bfd240.jpg
How can Merit even think twice about her new found life!!!! What can be hard about having some kind of sizzling connection to Ethan….no, this is unreal….Merit turns down becoming Ethan’s vamp lover!!!!!
“Stop. That was a mistake. It shouldn’t have happened."
"No?"
"No."
"I could offer you more.”
"What?”
"Power. Access. Rewards. You’d need be available only to me.”
"Are you asking me to be your mistress?”
"Yes.”
"Oh, my God.”
"Is that a yes?”
"No, Ethan, Jesus. Definitely not.”
I’m pulling my hair out….

Well, there’s no going back…Merit has to get with the “program”…..learning all about those weird vampires…
“Although security and warfare had never been my gig, vampire security was highly contextual and thus incredibly interesting. There were links to history (Vampires were screwed over yesterday!) and politics (House X screwed us over yesterday!), philosophy (Why do you think they screwed us over yesterday?) and ethics (If we didn’t bite, would they have screwed us over yesterday?), and, of course, strategy (How did they screw us over? How can we keep them from screwing us over again or, better yet, screw them over first?).”
…and no way is she going to be some wimp!!
“ “I'm just warning you, I'm probably going to be a total hard-ass vamp."
Allright, that’s good…nothing more exciting than a vamp star….
So things start “hotting” up in Chicago…a vampire kills two young women and just misses Merit..remember, she’s saved by Ethan….and the evidence left at the crime scenes point to a member of the vampire houses….and Merit, after receiving her training as a rogue vampire slayer and protector of her master and his house, goes on a tracking trip to bring the bad guys down!!!!!!

Her new life is totally filled up during the hours of darkness…yes these vampires only come out at night!...training, studying, checking out her new wardrobe that is acceptable in the vampire world…like Armani…yes Armani photo bf96ed6c2d800f3c1b0733a8d70771ce_zpsa97cf1d0.jpg…ooh, these vampires have a taste for the good things in life!!!!!!..wait, let me not digress….Merit’s new life also includes lots of chats and yacks with her best friend Mallory, photo 1503804-bigthumbnail_zpscf411ff2.jpg, yes, she has blue hair and wait for it……(view spoiler) These two BFF’S forever are very close and like talking about a lot of things….
“You’re so immature.” “Blue hair. That’s all I’m saying.” “Bite me, dead girl.” I showed fang and winked at her. “Don’t tempt me, witch.”

Mallory snorted and walked out of the kitchen, calling out, "Yeah, well, you've got a purple marshmallow on your chin, hard-ass vamp.”
An engaging fast-paced plot, filled quirky and entertaining characters, humor, drama, romantic entanglements and some witty and funny dialogue, it proved to me quite an enjoyable read.

If there is one thing that I was irritated by – Merit & Mallory felt like some 18 year olds instead of being in their late twenties…some of the things they did and said felt somewhat immature and unrealistic. But I still found them both quite appealing!!!!

My favorite scene – when Merit and her friends take Ethan to a diner and feast on hot dogs……
 photo 18g5egy5gms00gif_zpsgdxpsxc8.gif

“Sullivan, just pick it up."
"My way is more genteel."
"Your way is more tight ass."
"Your respect for me, Sentinel, is astounding."
"I'd respect you more if you took a bite of that dog."
"You don't respect me any."
"Like I said, I'd respect you more. More than none.”
So, will I continue with this series??? Yes, definitely!!!!

Review: Close to Home by Lisa Jackson

Close to HomeClose to Home by Lisa Jackson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was a bit disappointed with Lisa Jackson’s latest book, Close to Home. I have read so many books by this author and have really liked most of them, but this one never grabbed me!!!!

Ghosts that haunt an decrepit mansion somewhere in the Northwest Pacific overlooking Columbia River that holds family secrets, unexplained disappearances, murders , kidnappings, serial killer on the loose......and a lot of all those unexplainable things!!!!
Sounds totally great.......yes, it does!!! But somehow, I found something missing in this story!!!! It didn’t pull me in!!!!

I felt a bit disconnected by the two mc’s...
Sarah Stewart McAdams, who has returned to her ancestral home with her two daughters in order to renovate the mansion – I am not sure if I liked her or not…..often found myself totally irritated by some of her actions…… and
Clint Walsh, who lives next door and has a past history with Sarah….I so wanted him to be more in the picture with Sarah and her daughters.

However, I adored Sarah’s daughters….Jade was so typical today’s teenager!!!! Loved her attitude and some of her lines were to die for!!!! And Gracie, the younger sister….she was so adorable with all her ghost hunting trips!!!!

The two of them made the book for me!!!!!

What did not make it for me....when the villain is revealed!!! What!!!! exactly.....my reaction!!!! It felt a bit flat for me.

Lisa Jackson is another author I like in the romantic suspense genre and although I liked this book, it wasn’t one of my favorite of hers.

Review: The Russian's Acquisition by Dani Collins

The Russian's AcquisitionThe Russian's Acquisition by Dani Collins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book really surprised me!!!

You see, I am not exactly “mad” about Russian heroes!!!! Yes, I admit it here…I so much prefer Greek & Italian heroes….but somehow, Alesky Dmitriev spun a web in my heart….yes, truly….here is this dark and tortured man who has this kind and lovable side to him. Never mind that he blackmailed the heroine, Clair Daniels……to becoming his lover…forget the word mistress…it’s just so passé!!!!

He did this because he wanted to get back at her boss….who, just by the way, had died and gone to heaven….or maybe hell!!!!
Here we have Alesky believing that Clair had been his enemy’s lover…but no, not even….because Clair is still a virgin..in this day and age!!!! Right!!!! But I kid you not!!! She’s truly an untouched virgin!!!! And we know how much these alpha-males those that!!!!!! Let me just add that despite being a virgin, Clair Daniels takes no nonsense….a strong and lively woman who goes after what she wants. And of course, that would be????? Alesky Dmitriev!!!!!

Talk about passion and heat and tension between these two!!!!! I totally engaged with them and found them very likeable.

A lovely romance of two damaged people who find something special in each other that enables them to find their HEA together.

Review: Mean Streak by Sandra Brown

Mean StreakMean Streak by Sandra Brown
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sandra Brown is one of my favourite romantic suspense writers and whilst her latest book, Mean Streak is a good one, it’s not as good as some of her earlier novels like Breath of Scandal and French Silk, just two of my favourites.

One of the things she does well is how she manages to surprise me every time....just when I think I have it all worked out...I know who the villain is....BAM....no, not anything I thought I knew!!!! And once again, she does this in this fast paced story that includes betrayals, murders, hillbillies, romance and a LOAD of twists and turns that you just never saw coming!!!!

I liked the heroine, Emory Charbonneau,
 photo Blake-Lively--Anna-Torv_zps62e7cc6a.jpeg
a successful paediatrician and reluctant heiress. She’s smart, kind, caring and totally focused.....although I questioned her sense in her husband “choice”....Jeff - self-centred, selfish, and a total loser!!!!

Anyway, Emory is training for a very important marathon that she’s taking part in and decides to travel to North Carolina mountains - where she disappears during her hike.
 photo a9d67b46a52e4110d2cf5f230bd8a02c_zps37a157a4.jpg

She wakes up in a remote cabin,

being cared by a mysterious and naturally gorgeous and sexy man,
 photo 79f8a22bf2325a7478fc8215ddc66859_zps8407faf9.jpg

"It was a lived-in face with a webbing of creases around his eyes, furrows at the corners of his lips, and a watchful wariness behind his eyes, which were a startling aquamarine. The cool color contrasted to his suntanned, wind-scoured face."
who refuses to tell her his name
She sank deeper into the mattress. Her concussed brain dragged her toward oblivion. She was just this side of it when she jerked into full awareness.
“You never told me your name.”
“That’s right,” he said. “And I won’t.”
So, I’m wondering, who is this mystery man??? Is he really a bad or good guy???

In the meantime, there’s a FBI agent on the trail of finding someone connected to some really horrible crime which seems connected to the mystery man!!!!

Whilst Emory is “incommunicado”, Jeff, her husband is suspected of foul play....and quite rightly so...what a dog....having an affair with his wife’s friend and work colleague!!!!!
The story flits between the police investigation into Emory’s disappearance and the cabin where she’s being held by a man who she thinks might be very dangerous!!!! But as time passes she begins to feel attracted to the mystery man holding her “captive”. The sexual attraction is undeniable and soon both are drawn to each other.........

"He nipped the side of her neck with his teeth, wanting to mark her as his, damn well knowing he had no right to her, no right even to want her. 'Scared?' [he asked] 'No.' 'Then I'm not doing it right.'"

"Tearing his mouth free of hers, he buried his face in the ell of her shoulder and neck, his breath fast and hot against her skin. 'Yeah, okay, something has changed. When I'm by myself in the night, I'll want you.'"

I would have liked a bit more sexual tension between Emory & Mystery man but the few times they were together, worked pretty well.

During the time Emory spends in the “boondocks”, we get a look at some hillbillies that are so not nice………………in fact, they are pretty awful!!!! And they live just down the road from mystery man!!!!

Unexpected things happening all the time….her husband suspected of trying to kill Emory so he can get her fortune, his so caring and loving lover…remember she’s Emory’s friend……in between police officers trying to work out Emory’s husband’s tricks and the FBI agent, Jack Connell’s, on the search for the mystery man…………………….talk about action taking place every moment!!!!

There are some secondary characters that are interesting and likeable…the FBI agent, Jack Connelly, the two detectives working on Emory’s disappearance, Knight & Grange.

So, okay, there were some pretty predicable things but still…did I get s surprise in the end. That I never expected.

I really enjoyed this book It kept me engaged and in a way, guessing until the very end…really, I thought I got the plot all along…just to be surprised when I least expected.

Review: The Neighbor (Short Story) by Dean Koontz

The Neighbor (Short Story)The Neighbor by Dean Koontz
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I have read some incredible books by this author......my favourites being some of his earlier works like Watchers, Strangers and Intensity but sadly have been a bit disappointed with some of the latest books – i haven’t been able to get into the Odd Thomas Series at all!!!
But his latest book, The City, looked so good and before starting that one, decided to read the prequel.

A short introduction to some of the characters that will play a part in The City.
Malcolm Pomerantz is twelve, a bit of a nerd and his lovely older sister Amalia form part of a really weird …let’s say beyond dysfunctional family…. Their mother gave me the creeps!!!!
Their next door neighbour has died......and we soon discover that he was a really really bad man!!!!

Jonah moves in next door with his family and soon he and Malcom become best friends, whose friendship spans a few decades.

It was a good set-up for The City.....creepy, weird and strange things happening all around....what we have come to expect from this author and it really “perked” my interest to wanting to read The City. I am looking forward to a good book there!!!

Review: Mr. Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #1) by Stephen King

Mr. Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #1)Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Stephen King is a great writer and I loved his earlier books....who can forget Carrie, Salem’s Lot, Dead Zone and my all-time favourite, The Stand!!! But since then, I have been totally disappointed in his books.
Mr Mercedes is just one of those ...I did not like at all!!!!
It started off really well....here’s another good one I thought!!! But no....definitely no!!!
It soon turned into a boring, ....by chapter 3 or 4....it was like...do I want to continue reading this????

No I did not....I really tried...believe me!!! I love this author....but I just could not.....even skimming page after page....i could not get into the plot....PLOT...hell, this was some kind of weird plot....and characters.

Did I finish reading it???? Well, after skipping hundreds of pages....I arrived at the last chapter.........and it did nothing for me!!!

What the hell is going on with Stephen King???? When is he going to write another epic like the Stand????

I am so disappointed............

Review: What The Greek Wants Most (The Untamable Greeks, #3) by Maya Blake

What The Greek Wants Most (The Untamable Greeks, #3)What The Greek Wants Most by Maya Blake
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Maya Blake has become one of my favourite Mills & Boon authors and I have really enjoyed her The Untameable Greeks Trilogy.

I so liked book #1... Sakis Pantelides story https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... and loved book #2, Arion Pantelides HEA, https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... so I couldn’t wait to get into Theo’s story.....let’s just say....I adored it!!!!! These Pantelides men are to die for!!!!!!

Theo is tortured by his past and obsessed with revenge..............he will stop at nothing to destroy the man who caused him so much pain and fear when he was in his late teens. Whatever it takes, even if it means using his nemesis daughter!!! The gorgeous Inez da Costa photo 4807a6b3e3ed62122c8fe8f02e9ade25_zpsd3eb2f85.jpg...i loved this character!!!! She’s so endearing and so likeable.

And I really, really liked Theo Pantelides. Despite the darkness in his life, he’s actually incredible in the way he treats Inez....he has heart ......and so much in him to give Inez. They are incredible and awesome couple – i really loved them together...the chemistry between them is totally awesome

Loved the setting...Rio de Janeiro...one of my favourite cities... photo images_zpsbd56c994.jpg...FABULOUS!!!!

This is such a wonderful series...and if you love Greek heroes... (yes, they are my favourite heroes ever...), then read all about the Pantelides brothers. They are just too fabulous for words!!!

Oh, before I forget....the use of Portuguese is done really well...i found only 1 mistake...and that's saying something because so often when authors use foreign words...they get it so wrong..but not here....WHAT...another good surprise!!!!
