Christakis's Rebellious Wife by Lynne Graham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I've been waiting excitedly for this book, which is the 2nd in Lynne Graham’s fabulous The Legacies of Powerful Men Trilogy. Betsy, the heroine, “spiked” my interest in book 1 and I was dying to know what her and Nik Christaki’s story was all about.
A heart-wrenching story of two people destined to be together and the obstacles they have to overcome before finding their HEA.
Betsy had a terrible childhood….dealing with her dyslexia, abandoned by her parents, she’s now working in a bistro, when she meets Nik, a gorgeous and rich playboy, who hides his damaged side from the world. They fall in love and marry despite their mutual desire not to have children – but each for different reasons.
But Betsy changes her mind….she wants to have a baby with Nik…and he totally loses it – because of his secret, which his brother reveals to her, she feels betrayed and tells him to go away. So what does he do….starts divorce proceedings and even more, takes his dog that she loved, with him and wants her out of the home they were living in….for spite………he has so much money that the house does not even make a tiny dent in his millions….what a punk……..and what a liar…..if he had ever loved her, he would not have done that to her!!!!
Six months later, both meet with their lawyers and when Nik’s lawyer goes for the jugular at Betsy, he changes his mind and gives her back the dog and the house…so big of him!!!!!!
Poor Nik can’t get Betsy out of his mind, visits her and soon they are having some hot and sensual moments which results in………you've guessed……she’s pregnant!!!!!!!!
Absolute shock…because of his secret (view spoiler) - it's just not possible!! But possible it is.....
What follows next is very emotional. In some way I could understand why Nik felt the way he did about not having children – the emotional and physical abuse from his mother as a child was really dark and terrible.
In the end, having faced their demons together, it was really lovely seeing them build a happy and fulfilling life and family with each other.
A second chance at finding happiness, poignant but uplifting too.
