My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Another incredibly emotional story by Maisey Yates, who has become one of my most favorite Mills & Boon authors.
After reading One Night in Paradise, which I really liked https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... I wondered if we would ever find out more about Hannah Weston, who had jilted Zach at the altar. And I was so happy when I discovered that we would.
Eduardo Vega kidnapped Hannah Weston on her way to marrying Zach because not only was she still married to him but he needed her help.
There is so much history between Hannah & Eduardo that began five years previously in Barcelona and the unfolding of their past and the development of meeting up again takes you on the most incredible journey.
Hannah has reinvented herself after her terrible and abusive childhood as is now a very successful and wealthy woman, with a new name and new life. A life built on lies that were the only way for her to overcome her past. But then, is it not true that….
Eduardo’s life as a rich and entitled playboy ended the day he had an accident that has resulted in something he has never expected to happen to him…and he believes that Hannah is the only person he can trust to help him.
From the first paragraph….
Hannah Weston swore as she tripped over the hem of her wedding dress, her focus diverted by the scrolling numbers on the screen of her smart phone. She’d said she wouldn’t work today. She’d lied.I had this feeling of a cold and selfish person at first….but somehow she just pulled me in. There was something about her that touched me….I felt there was something else behind this mask she wore. Soon, I began to feel a kinship with her. Here’s this woman, very successful in every way, and every night, on her own, was a woman that have endured so much pain and loss…and still she managed to rise up from the ashes to do something with her life…….what…like a phoenix rising…yes, in some ways. Of course, some of her actions may be seen as not so noble…but what you would do if you were in her place???? She made mistakes, she was wounded so many times but she never gave in. I so admired that in her.
The author never makes excuses for the actions that
Hannah & Eduardo have made or fixes all their problems in a flash. That was one of the things I loved in this story. Eduardo does not get a sudden recovery to his physical problems resulting from his accident. Hannah does not (view spoiler) .
Instead we see how the two characters develop and handle the situation and obstacles that face them both. Their emotional development filled the story with a sense of joy and hopefulness for them.
I loved the way Hannah helped Eduardo……..not with pity…but with…let’s get it right together….hell, she reminded me so much of myself. Seeing her letting go of her past and finding true and lasting love was so beautiful.
The last few pages had me in almost tears. It was the most incredible interaction between Hannah & Eduardo - so meaningful, so loving, so caring….let me just say…it was totally amazing and beautiful.
Thank you Maisey Yates for an unforgettable story.
