With the excitement building up to the opening of the movie, Breaking Dawn, the next in the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer, I grabbed all 4 books in my bookshelf and read them all over again....for the 20th time...no kidding.....I AM ADDICTED TO THESE BOOKS......I am one of those die hard fans....and I loved them as much as I did when I read them for the first time....after reading them over 20 times I am still amazed by the story of Edward and Bella....i never get tired of them.....
This is how it all began............
After reading and liking Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles ie Interview with a Vampire, Lestat and Queen of the Dammed I became a bit bored with the whole vampire thing. In November 2008, I saw the Twilight books displayed at my local bookshop and knowing my sister loved vampire novels, decided to buy them as a present for her. I knew nothing about the books or the author but loved the covers and the titles so I thought she would enjoy them.
I had been diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks before and in early Jan 2009, my sister Del (who I had given the books to) suggested we go and see the movie Twilight to cheer me up.
Wow….my life changed that night!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE MOVIE. I fell in love with Edward and Bella before I left the cinema!!!! I woke up the next morning and just HAD TO ask her to lend me the books and it began then…..my fascination, my obsession some may call it, my love for all things TWILIGHT. Yes, I know the books are target to the young readers market but this did not detract my love for the 4 books and movies. The fact that the books are written in first person from Bella’s perspective stopped me – I usually do not like first person books.
From the moment I read the first page of the book Twilight, I became obviously to my surroundings and lost myself in the world of fantasy, intrigue, undying love, mystery, friendship, yearning, sacrifice and courage. I found Bella and Edward’s love for each other so touching and was amazed how the author portrays the sensual story of the two without the usual sex, violence, drinking and bad language that is the norm in this genre of books. She shows passion without having to get two people naked and sweaty.
Some of the dialogue is pure magic – the opening “Surely it was a good way to die, in the place of someone else, someone I loved.”, “so the lion fell in love with the lamb”, “That’s Edward. He’s gorgeous, of course, but don’t waste your time. He doesn’t date. Apparently none of the girls here are good-looking enough for him”. I decided as long as I was going to hell, I might as well do it thoroughly”. What if I am not the superhero? What if I am the bad guy?”
I read this book in one go and started NEW MOON immediately
I own up!!!!!! I hated NEW MOON when I first read it. Where was Edward???? How could he leave Bella/?? And Jacob….I wanted to wring his not yet turned werewolf’s neck!!!! How dare he tried and take Edward’s place in Bella’s heart. I was so attached to Edward and I turned page after page – fast and furious- hoping to find him again. But only towards the end of the book does he appear again. Pain and anguish was what I felt not having him in this book!!!!! I was relieved when Bella and Edward got back together and loved meeting the Volturi gang.
Okay, so Jacob was a good friend when Bella went through the painful period of Edward’s absence in her life!!!
I skipped a lot of pages when I first read this book but consequently have reread it many times and enjoyed it a bit more. However, it still remains the book I like the least in the series.
Here’s some dialogue from this book that I like – “I love a happy ending. They are so rare”, “I don’t care!! You can have my soul. I don’t want it without you – it’s yours already”, "If you believed as he did, could you take away his soul?” “You’re the very best part of my life”.
Eclipse, the 3rd book in the series starts with a poem by Robert Frost, FIRE & ICE.
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice

Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice
Thank heavens Edward is back……………………….
It tells the story about Bella having to make a choice between her love for Edward (ice) and her deep friendship with Jacob (fire). You feel the jealousy and the battle they both have in wanting Bella. You feel the agony she feels having to make a choice after being given an ultimatum by them and knowing she can’t live without Edward but does not want to lose Jacob’s friendship. She feels there is a reason for Jacob being in her life.
We see the Cullens and werewolves forming an alliance to battle the vampires that are threatening Bella and Forks.

The book ends with Bella accepting Edward’s marriage proposal.
Some great dialogue from this book – “I want to be a monster too”, If we could bottle up your luck, we’d have a weapon of mass destruction in our hands”, “I really wish you were not forcing me to say this out loud, Dad. Really. But….I am a …virgin”, “Well, don’t be offended, but you smell like a dog”, Edward has always been a little strange”, “It’s a good thing you’re bulletproof. I’m going to need that ring. It’s time to tell Charlie”.
I couldn’t wait to start the next book………..I needed to know what happens next……………

BREAKING DAWN…….wow…..a much bigger book than the others….YIPPEE…..I can’t get enough……now onto the 4th book…….it gets better and better. I have grown to love the characters so so much. I want to be there on Bella and Edward’s following chapters of their lives together.
THIS IS THE BOOK I MOST LOVED of the whole series. I read it slowly to keep me from finishing the book. I wanted the story to never end……
Edward and Bella finally get married. The wedding scenes are absolutely magical……I was there….saw the beautiful ceremony, smelt the flowers, loved the dresses, the Cullen family, the friends…..felt the love and happiness around……
Their honeymoon on Esme’s Island in Brazil….the romantic setting – the white villa, white sand, the moon, their lovemaking…..finally together at last…..
The suffering and love during her pregnancy…..and then BELLA as a vampire. OMG…I always knew she would make a gorgeous and stunning vampire and SHE IS…..the part of her new life is so amazing to read. Meeting their daughter, Renesemee and the Cullen vampire friends. The build-up to the meeting with the Volturi is nail-biting.
I didn’t want to get to the end of this book. I wanted to read more about the characters who were now my family.
I felt sad to say goodbye but I knew I would meet them again when I read the books again and again….which I have done over 20 times…..I never get tired of getting back into their lives.
Who knows, maybe Stephanie Meyer will write a story about Renesmee and the families of Forks. I live in hope!!!!
Some great quotes from this book- ‘I’d had more than my fair share of near-death experiences’ it wasn’t something you ever really got used to”, “I’ve been waiting a century to marry you, Miss Swan”, “Don’t be afraid. We belong together”, “Fire and ice, somehow existing together without destroying each other”. “More proof that I belonged with him”, “If there was such a thing as a safe vampire, it was the strangely gentle leader”. “Vampires get headaches?””You stupid mutt!! How could you!!!!My baby.”
It’s no wonder millions of people have read these books. They are unforgettable and you will want to go back again and again and read them over and over and over…….
I have numerous editions of each book…even managed to find a 1st edition of Twilight. Can I tell my secret??? I have an Edward watch, socks, lunch box, loads of Edward books, and a loads of other things about Twilight…..SO OTT…..my friends tell me…..right…they even give me Edward posters as presents…..I sound like of of those crazy fans....nah....anyway I am off to the midnight preview of the movie Breaking Dawn next week............can't wait for the next TWILIGHT CHAPTER.........
