I enjoy reading Chantelle Shaw’s books…Ruthless Russian, Lost Innocence – The Greek Tycoon’s Virgin Mistress – After the Greek Affair are some of her books that I really liked. However I was a bit disappointed with A Dangerous Infatuation.
It’s not exactly a bad read…..the first few chapters are pretty okay….the setting, the heroine helping the stranded hero in the middle of a snow storm, you meet the hero’s feisty grandmother Cordelia, the heroine’s distrust of men, her daughter (she seemed very articulate for a 3 year old….), the attraction between them, the hero who does not do commitment and unable to understand his attraction for someone totally the opposite to the women he normally has affairs with.
Half-way through the book I lost interest in the story. How many times did we have to hear about Emma’s distrust of men because her husband had been unfaithful during their marriage so no way was she going to have an affair with Rocco. She seems such a drab, boring unexciting heroine…..why would she want to go to a party wearing a cheap navy blue dress when Rocco had offered to buy her a fabulous designer outfit????
When they finally “do it” ….not a sensual meeting but almost clinical…allright I know she is a nurse….I could excuse her…but Rocco…he’s supposedly a gorgeous, sexy millionaire that women hunger for….no excuse for Rocco ….okay I admit I skimmed over their first love scene…..kept turning the pages hoping some hot and sizzling emotion will eventually erupt…but no….
I felt I was going from one place to another….the bitchy ex lover gossiping about Rocco, then his grandfather telling Emma that his grandson was going to marry a good Italian girl, Rocco blaming himself for his brother’s death, the discovery of an illegitimate half-brother……and so on……I never felt involved in the story….and the ending I felt was rushed over…after telling Emma that if she leaves him he will not come after her….right….two pages later he arrives in England telling her of his undying love……what a twit……..
What did I like…… Rocco’s grandmother and Emma’s daughter. They had the best lines and scenes and to me were the most interesting characters.
I would have enjoyed this book if there had been a more exciting heroine and less of the repetitive parts about the unfaithful husband, and all those sub plots.
