Review: Heat of the Moment (Men out of Uniform #1) by Elle Kennedy

Heat of the Moment (Out of Uniform, #1)Heat of the Moment by Elle Kennedy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read …….the 9th book in this fun and sexy series at one of my GR friend’s recommendation….which I absolutely loved and couldn’t wait to read the entire series.
What could be more exciting than going on a trip with some gorgeous, sexy, funny, totally alpha-male Navy Seals!!!
 photo tumblr_lpe4ppzRnS1qi1uveo1_500_zpsbd78a6b6.jpg
This is the first book in the Out of Uniform series and it was a quick and short read, telling the story of sexy Navy Seal, John Garrett, who has had a crush for over a year on the local bakery owner, Shelby. Of course, she has a crush on him too…but neither knows this!!!
Until on hot and steamy day, Shelby overhears John discussing her with his best pal, Carson –
“Shelby’s not a wild chick, Garrett. Like you said, she’s nice, wholesome, you know, the kind of woman who’d probably freak out if you suggested, I don’t know, trying something other than the missionary position. Maybe it’s the freckles.”
“I like the freckles.”
Really….., John believes her to be innocent and probably only likes vanilla sex and no way could she ever be into threesomes (which is something these navy seal boys LUV……)!!!
What else can a girl do to destroy that mundane image they have of her????
 photo 1518693_125_zpsab4c131e.jpg
That’s right…she seduces both gorgeous guys and soon the three are in her bedroom, where she’s ravished by two hot guys..…but wait….(view spoiler)….even though Carson…oh wow…he’s more than HOT…..(there is definitely a story of his own…)
Short, sweet story that didn’t really have much time for character development.
Also the ending happened really fast …in fact I was totally fazed when I turned the last page. I wanted a bit more. Having said that, I was really smiling as I kept turning the pages.
Can’t wait for Carson’s story and more about these fabulous men in uniform!!!

Review: The De Santis Marriage by Michelle Reid

I can’t decide if I liked this story. I didn’t exactly hate it, but I didn’t love it either. I think the mc’s were the cause of the problem….especially in the first half of the story!!! Elizabeth (it’s beyond my comprehension that anyone would prefer to be called Lizzy instead…….such a horrid nickname IMO!!) is in Italy , as her best friend’s bridesmaid, who is getting married to the uber rich, uber gorgeous, uber sexy Luc De Santis. This heroine has not had a great life so far – her father ignores her, she wears cast-outs from Bianca, her best friend and thinks that she’s a pretty uninteresting woman……..but really she’s not!!! We all know that underneath all that drabness is a raving beauty, otherwise why would the hero WANT her!!!! But wait…I’m getting ahead of the story here. So, a few days before the wedding of the century between Bianca and Luc...what happens???? Bianca disappears with the heroine’s brother, leaving poor Elizabeth the honor of informing the hero that he no longer has a bride available to carry on his dynasty. What a catastrophe!!! Now, the hero is furious…no, he’s gone ballistic ….his reputation is on the line. What will the world think….him being ditched at the last minute!!!! He has to act quickly and fast……….and what could be better than blackmailing the poor heroine to take her best friend’s place as THE BRIDE!!!! She’ll do. After all they almost kissed on the balcony at the pre-wedding party!!!! In fact, it doesn’t really matter who the woman is, as long as she fills the role he wants. And he tells her exactly what her role will be.
He offered a shrug. “I am ready to mate. I want - cubs.
Ooh, she just can’t do this. How could he be so horrid!!! She has to fight back!!
“You are more than 10 years older than me, and that makes you really old in my eyes, signor.” .
Is she serious????
“Thirty-four to twenty-two is a good difference cara.” It was the first time he had used that endearment to her and it quivered down her spine like a terrible sin. “It means I can offer you experience and fidelity, having worked out my studding period when I was your age.”
…..Really, did he just say that????
“Whereas you will give me your youth, your beauty, your wonderful smooth, tight, creamy white body ….
” Jeez….this guy is beyond alpha-male!!!! And what does Lizzy say to that……
“How cold you are.”
No, really????
“Not between the sheets.”…..
his reply ……seriously!!! I kid you not!!! You have to love the interaction between these two………..
“So if I decided one day to, say, stroll into your office and demand sex with you while you’re busy on the phone making more millions?” she challenged.
Wow, is this woman for real???? Of course Luc is never lost for words…..
“Is that one of your fantasies?” he quizzed, bringing a flush crawling up her throat. .
Uh!!!!!
“Then, of course, I would do my best to accommodate you – just make sure you arrive wearing no tights.” .
This man knows what he wants…..
”Panties can be dealt with, tights demand a distinct lack of finesse, .
- I so totally agree Luc -
and if your fantasy forces me to make millions while I accommodate you then, the easier you make it for me, the more pleasure you will get out of me.” .
Now, this is a man who is totally in tune with himself!!!!!!!!!!!! He “cock-sure” about his lovemaking skills no doubt!!! And boy, does Lizzy discover those skills within a short time…. So, Luc is busy playing with her breasts and what does Lizzy think and feel?????
“Her nipples sprang out in a blatant leap and she squirmed in embarrassment . . .
” What….oh yes, forgot….she’s a virgin and never done this before so I suppose she could be forgiven …but only this one time. Of course, Luc being the super lover…..
“He wasn’t embarrassed. He just used his long fingers to shape the quivering (am I mistaken or is there a lot of quivering going on here!!!) globe in preparation to take that tight dark rosebud into his mouth. A piercing hot sting struck from the centre of her nipple and shot all the way down to her thighs, bending her body like a wand.” .
Oh my…. How could Lizzy ever doubt this man’s sexual expertise????? Soon Lizzy is swept into Luc’s the jet-setting lifestyle – limos, villas, private jets and helicopters, grand homes all over the world – Lake Como, Milan, the Caribbean, designer wardrobes….you know the things we all dream about and never come true…..hell, it certainly came true for Lizzy…and does she appreciate it??? You guessed right!!! She’s a constant whinger, whiner and is totally horrid and immature and ungrateful towards poor Luc every chance she’s given. By the time Luc flies her on his private jet...natch!!...to the beautiful island for their honeymoon, I was feeling really sorry for him. Okay, so the guy used some underhand methods to get her but he’s turned out to be someone nicer underneath that sardonic attitude. No, he does not have a dark past or secret…well his grandfather was a bit of a Romeo…but nothing too heavy and awful…. In fact I was warming up to him pretty fast but hey not old Lizzy. She continued with her complaints and threats and accusations about how awful and horrid Luc was!!! Let me just say that …….I DID NOT LIKE THIS ELIZABETH!!! Why couldn’t Luc fall in love with someone who really saw the real him???? And him having to grovel in the end to get her back!!!!!!!!! Well, I truly hope that their HEA is everlasting. After all, Lizzy does tell him at the end….
“Just something else I owe you,” Lizzy shied mock tragically. “Five and half million kisses -.
oh yes, that was the way that Luc told Lizzy in the beginning, how she could repay that amount, which he used to bail her dolt family out of trouble, back to him –
a few De Santis cubs .
– oh yay, she agreed!!! So, finally, what else can I say…..I liked the story of Luc & Lizzy…but not exactly one of my favorites by this author.

Review: The Markonos Bride by Michelle Reid

The Markonos BrideThe Markonos Bride by Michelle Reid
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is one of my fav Mills & Boon authors and I've loved reading her books, but The Markonos Bride is one of them that I always remember and come back to read it again and again.

It's such an emotional and heart-wrenching story and it touches my heart each time I read it.

Second chances, family betrayals, endearing hero/heroine that you bond with from the very beginning. You feel their pain, their heartache, their loss and you just want them to find each other again and move on together and find true happiness.

I absolutely loved the epilogue. Love and forgiveness and a chance to finding true happiness together and building a family filled with love and care.

Such a beautiful book!!!

Review: Lethal by Sandra Brown

LethalLethal by Sandra Brown
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love Sandra Brown's books and whilst this is not my favourite of hers, I still enjoyed it a lot.

Lethal has all the elements I like in romance/suspense....engaging characters, a fast-paced plot that keeps you guessing until the end.

Wow.....and here I had this idea that small towns were filled with nice people....not in the town where Honor Gillette and her daughter live and where Coburn is accused of mass murder!!!

Every one seems to have a secret.....betrayals,murders, deceptions....we have it all here.

Twists and turns abound and did I get a surprise when the identity of the "bad guy" is revealed!!!! I was so not expecting that!!!

My favourite character????? Emily, Honor's gorgeous and adorable daughter

Review: Deceptive Attraction by Tara Lain

Deceptive Attraction (Genetic Attraction, #3)Deceptive Attraction by Tara Lain
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love this series. Tara Lain has written such endearing and believable characters that just grab your heart.

Deceptive Attraction is the 3rd book in her Genetic Attraction series and what a delightful and charming read.

Caleb is Jake’s brother, photo 484f26939929853ee37882ec3e69beec_zpsf44596c0.jpg who we first met in Genetic Attraction https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (which is one of my favorite m/m/f books ever!!!) is gay and in the closet. He has a one night stand with Elijah. Angel, Em’s cousin is a tomboy midwife who arrives from Africa at the house Caleb is house-sitting.

Wow…..do things hot up when the three meet up!!! It turns into an amazing and erotic mmf ménage story.
Deceptive Attraction by Tara Lain photo tumblr_mtsjohKbED1rznbkyo1_500_zps620985e9.jpg
There’s a new take on straight-for-you theme. Caleb is gay and has never been with a woman and for the first time he feels a powerful attraction to Angel…..in some way I could believe it….Angel is a tomboy and has a kind of androgynous look which turns him on.Deceptive Attraction by Tara Lain photo bbbd86fd9b36a87607389619c5943c15_zps2d11ff43.jpg
Eli is the “cuter” one in this relationship, with his blond curls.Deceptive Attraction by Tara Lain photo 3187866_zps16495c52.jpg
It was a sort of twist to all those ‘gay for you' stories

I enjoyed the way Caleb and Eli resolved their personal issues and conflicts…..and hey Angel….I adored this woman. She was such an endearing and lovable character.

The interaction between them is really fantastic and it had me totally engrossed in the story from beginning to the end. Loved their connection and the deep feelings they have for each other.

Loved seeing a bit more of Jake, Roan and Em and the beginning of building a family together. In fact, one of the things I like about this series is the family dynamics.

This is a really wonderful mmf ménage story and if you enjoy this genre, you will love this series.

Review: Temptation by Nicole Edwards

Temptation (Club Destiny, #2)Temptation by Nicole Edwards
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The 2nd book in Nicole Edwards Club Destiny Series and the one I, so far like the most.

Having met Luke and Cole in book #1, I was dying to see where their story would go…..and wow…..awesome!!! I was totally in love with both of them and not forgetting Sierra…the three just made such a fabulous trio.
Temptation by Nicole Edwards photo 8bf272cf38c72db062fc6f5d22917108_zpsda99acbe.jpg

Okay, so the plot may be a bit too much to really believe….but the author just writes it in such a way…that it’s like who cares!!!!! Right then…everything felt believable for me.

So Luke runs when he can’t deal with his feelings…..Cole ..wow..what an amazing guy…he’s comfortable with who he is and what he feels….and Sierra…who would have guessed!!!!

I loved the interaction between the three – the way they deal with their feelings for each other and having to face the obstacles that faced them as a threesome …. and jeez….the sex scenes…hot, hotter, hottest, sexy and sizzling.

I am really enjoying this series.

Review: The Couple who Fooled the World by Maisey Yates

The Couple Who Fooled The WorldThe Couple Who Fooled The World by Maisey Yates
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am a huge fan of Maisey Yates but I have to be honest and state that at first I couldn’t get into the story and after a chapter or two put it aside….and it wasn’t until I read some of the reviews that “perked “my interest in getting back to it. And am I happy I did. How could I have ever thought that I was not into it????

This book took me by surprise. This is not the old theme of the poor virgin heroine seduced by the billionaire who controls her life….you know those who buy the heroine a new wardrobe, tell her what to do and say and just be over the moon that he wants her body!!!!! No, here we have a dark and tormented billionaire hero The Couple who Fooled the World by Maisey Yates photo 57514362f36f5503a987a2897706785d_zps8b8d49e9.jpg
and a successful…let’s talk a heroine billionaire as well, who’s both sexy, sassy and beyond smart and dresses so totally in BLACK…..The Couple who Fooled the World by Maisey Yates photo girl-beautiful-sunglasses-lips-blonde-hair-black-dress_zps55e364b8.jpg
Both have baggage from their past. The hero has been deeply affected by what he experienced from the time he was a teenager and has since built up an empire and has made sure that he’s in total control of his life, something he never had when he worked as (view spoiler).
I felt for Ferro, though I was pretty shocked how he behaved the first time he and the heroine made love….his total disregard to her feelings, his coldness and somewhat cruelty really got to me…..at this point, I began to think…..hey I hate this guy…..what a total jerk…….but as his story unfolded…….something changed in me…….In some way I understood the strength and determination in him that made him want to be in control of his life and how sad it made me feel seeing the walls he erected around himself in what he believed he needed to do to survive and overcome his painful and dark past.
“He closed the distance between them and pulled her to him, his lips hovering over hers. “I will kiss you now,” he said. “And this is not about restraint. Or seduction. Or control. This is for me. This is not for you, or for anyone else. It’s not for any other reason than that you are a woman, and I am a man, and I want you like I have never wanted anyone or anything in my entire life.”

One can feel his pain and anguish and how much he suffers trying to be a person of worth. I wanted to tell him so many things…
The Couple who Fooled the World by Maisey Yates photo tumblr_mb31k5bKkg1qfdwsio1_250_zpsebe119e8.jpg

What I most loved about the heroine, Julia, was that despite the baggage she carries around from her childhood, has not broken her. Instead she’s become a strong and independent woman. She’s not a woman that will not sleep with a man unless she’s attracted and feels something for him.
She also understood how important it was to choose your lover. Part of her was relieved it was happening like this. Not in the heat of the moment, but with a pause for discussion. With a definitive answer from both sides. It made her feel powerful. Made her feel in control. She imagined Ferro felt the same, and shouldn’t it be that way? Shouldn’t both parties want it? .

And loved that she shows how assertive she is when she acts on her attraction for Ferro, the hero.
The Couple who Fooled the World by Maisey Yates photo female-pulling-tie-man-6830895_zpsaddb3b06.jpg

“Tell me first. Then I’ll decide.”
“I think my lover’s pleasure is important to me,” he said. “You are in luck there. I’ve no interest in taking without giving back.”
As had been done to him. She finished the sentence in her head.
“I will expect you to learn what I like. To learn to give it without asking. You will follow my instructions.”
“And if I don’t want to do something you ask of me?” she asked.
He stopped walking, his eyes meeting hers. “My lover’s pleasure is important to me,” he said. “Always remember that.” .

I felt her loneliness………..
Maybe they could help each other feel less alone. If only for a little bit.

And how she’s able to show her vulnerability and her feelings and how it affects Ferro.
He started to move and her fingers dug into his shoulders again. “No. Stay. Don’t leave me. Please.”
“Julia…”
“I need you.”
And because no one had ever needed him before, he stayed.

 photo 23294610761641897897_large_zpsc285da98.gif

Great character development. Conflict. Tension. Sexual chemistry. The dialogue. Done so well. I really felt connected to the characters.

The story flows very well and I loved how Julia crept slowly into Ferro’s heart and when he begins realize it, is unable to accept that she may be the person who will heal his heart and soul.
The Couple who Fooled the World by Maisey Yates photo tumblr_mqj1l0o6hb1sque89o1_500_zpsa7d96e4b.jpg

As she took him deep into her mouth, he lost the capability to think. To breathe. No woman had done this for him before. It was the ultimate in giving pleasure, while taking none. And she did it as though she could feel what he was feeling. As though she was just as lost in it all.
Did I mention that the sex scenes are hot and intense……???

And baring his soul………..it pulled my heartstrings…
He moved to her, put his hand on her cheek. “You are so much better than beautiful.”
“What does that mean?” she asked, her voice shaking.
“You are beautiful, but there is something in you. Something that shines from inside. That is what makes me want to lose control with you. Because I want to touch the light. I want to feel warm. You will make me feel warm.”

This was such a passionate and beautiful part in the book…..the words have stayed in my head since I read them.

Loved the epilogue…….what a splash!!!!!
The Couple who Fooled the World by Maisey Yates photo 4197757447_6156b5deb2_zpsc2710d5c.jpg

Unforgettable presentation Julia & Ferro!!!!!!

If you want a powerful and moving love story, this book will not disappoint you. You will go on a journey with two vulnerable and flawed characters as they discover that love has the power to heal.

A sweet and romantic love story...not the usual type of book I have read by this author...but nevertheless, enjoyable.

I did like the heroine- she had some tragic things happen in her life and I was hoping that she would eventually find happiness with someone special....which of course she does.

Review: Prince of Secrets by Lucy Monroe

Prince of SecretsPrince of Secrets by Lucy Monroe
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A geeky scientist and a handsome prince....my first thought was....what!!! Never!!!

Then it became clear to me that it was totally possible....this prince has some devious plans that include the "underneath the drabness is a beautiful swan" scientist...and let me tell you...his intentions are not pure and true!!!

What made me not get too bored was the heroine. How would anyone named Chanel (yes, her mother named her after Coco Chanel, who just happenned to be her favourite designer!!) become a scientist. Surely the name would suit a model or actress much better!!!!
She was quite endearing and rather sweet....and she made me laugh loads of times....

check out some of her dialogue and thoughts......

“If you like reading about sex so much, how are you still a virgin?”
“I like reading murder mysteries, too, but I haven’t gone out and killed anybody.”
I loved her reasoning!!!!

But wait...here's just one more of many of what I really enjoyed about her character...

Her mouth went dry, the moisture going straight to her palms. “You’re big, aren’t you?”
“I’ve never compared myself to other men.” With that he shucked out of his boxers, leaving his very swollen, very rigid length on display.
“According to scientific studies, the average penile length is five to five-point-seven inches in length when erect.” And Demyan was definitely longer, unless her eyes were deceiving her.

Not incredible but still enjoyable.

Review: One Night, So Pregnant by Heidi Rice

One Night, So Pregnant! One Night, So Pregnant! by Heidi Rice
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I loved the first 3 books in Brothers and Sisters Series by the fabulous Heidi Rice and I was so looking forward to book #4…..and wow…was I disappointed. I so wanted to love this book but there were so many things that annoyed me…apart from being bored bored from page 3...by that time I was in a frenzy……
 photo tumblr_m6v26iy4YI1ranhnao1_500_zps26c410e7.gif

I disliked the heroine from the start. The way she behaved and carried on…..what…how old is this woman?????? She spent most of the story being so not endearing and a total whinier that I wanted to tell her go join One Night, So Pregnant by Heidi Rice photo 332f3bd7-ac9d-4d5d-967b-ab7fe7561fa8_zps85d8e4e2.jpg

The hero drove me crazy with his childish behavior…really he did!!!

She liked him, and then she didn’t. He found her sexy but thought she was a slut….she liked his home and his friend…..she cried buckets about being pregnant…he had a horrible childhood…..too much One Night, So Pregnant by Heidi Rice photo images_zps591ccf03.jpg

Despite my boredom with the H/H…I still enjoyed the author’s writing. And I did like the settings.

Hopefully I am going to love book #5, which is Jake’s story. Can’t wait!!

Review: The Secret Casella Baby by Cathy Williams

The Secret Casella BabyThe Secret Casella Baby by Cathy Williams
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I usually like reading books by this author but this one of those that I did not like at all.
I found it difficult to like the hero. His behavior was non-excusable. After keeping the truth about who he really was for over a year, whilst indulging in an affair with the heroine, why should he be surprised at her response? I expected him to be honorable and instead he’s damn right cruel and sanctimonious…..and how dare he displays anger when faced with his lies!!!!
 photo b1adbcb0-c549-426e-90bb-903bd02a5252_zps8b4f986f.jpg

I liked Holly in the beginning but the way she handled the situation – yes, she finds herself dumped and pregnant – was a bit of a disappointment for me.

And more annoying was how they reached the resolution to the problems and suddenly the guy is madly in love with her…pleeeeezzzz!!!! Such a rushed ending!!!

Review: His Ring is not Enough by Maisey Yates

His Ring Is Not EnoughHis Ring Is Not Enough by Maisey Yates
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book.
What made this story so poignant, touching and amazing for me:

The characters:

I loved getting to know their backstories, their goals, their feelings and becoming so engaged in their lives that made me want them to find happiness and joy.

The heroine – Leah is not your typical Mills & Boon h. She’s not a skinny supermodel type,
she’s smart and independent and is not afraid to speak her mind. I loved the way she challenged Ajax and that she wasn’t one of those helpless and whining women.
His Ring is not Enough by Maisey Yates photo bff73a24edff4c66bf3732c6aa711fea_zpsa30b730e.jpgLiving in the shadow of her beautiful sister, she has worked hard at building her own candy stores business and tries getting on with her life and do what she’s best at….using her brain instead of her looks.
She’s been in love with Ajax like….forever!!!! But he fell in love with her beautiful, outgoing, perfect and “small” size sister and she has to contend with the position of the bridesmaid at their wedding.

The hero- Ajax - here’s this successful, gorgeous and complicated man, who has for years been hiding something dark and secretive from everyone. He’s tortured, broken and afraid to let loose the monster he believes lives inside him. The darkness in him is overwhelming.
(view spoiler)
He has a PLAN in his life and has worked at attaining his goals without any deviation or letting emotions and feelings get in his way.
But Leah does something to him that makes him afraid for the feelings he has been hiding most of his life.

He’d never felt like this. Had never been a slave to his desires in the way he was now. He’d experienced sexual arousal—of course he had. But the truth was, he hadn’t had sex in seventeen years. And desire, adult desire, a man to a woman, was utterly foreign to him. He’d ensured that it But in this moment nothing mattered. Because there was something about Leah that made the past feel not just foggy, but nonexistent.
He wanted to drown in that feeling. Be baptized in it. Come out clean and new.
An illusion, he knew it, but he wanted to cling to it. Just for a while.

 photo tumblr_lrc5nxxiHn1qztqdxo1_500_zps1c41c36e.gif

I loved the character development and watching Leah and Ajax go through such turbulent times was heartbreaking at times. She thought she knew Ajax but in reality so not true. He’s nothing like she thought he was.
And the struggle Ajax goes through trying to keep the monster inside him from Leah – such sadness in his heart. For the first time, someone is threatening the shell he’s built around his heart and body and destroying everything he’s worked all his life for.

The plot – Leah’s sister runs away from her wedding and Leah offers to stands in as the bride so she can save Ajax’s business contract and because she loves him, has always loved him, and perhaps he will see the real HER. But sometimes things happen differently….
“So it seems. But we must attempt to make this look real.”
“It is real. As you pointed out, I signed a license, I took vows. It’s all real, man.”
“You know what I mean.”
“Love,” she said, looking up at him. “You want it to look like love. You want me to gaze at you in adoration so no one doubts my happiness or your penis size—I got it.”
His throat tightened, a strange kind of heat prickling his face. “You do not normally talk this way.”

He agrees, even though he wants and still loves her sister (idiota….you don’t really….you just think you do….because it’s just part of your PLAN!!! )
The story is driven by conflict, tension, romance, with some strong sexual elements which form part of the story and add meaning to the two main characters relationship.

The author delves into a subject not usually seen in Mills & Boon books. Yes, there are some sweet and tender moments but there’s an added edge with some dark, erotic and sensual scenes, with a touch of light BDSM that just blew me away. It was written so beautifully and in such a way that it never becomes in your face or perverse in any way……
“I want to break the rules,” she said.
“You will follow the rules, or I won’t allow you to come,” he said, his tone hard.
Her breath caught. “Oh.”
“Will you be good?”
“Yes,” she said, swallowing hard, her stomach tightening. His Ring is not Enough by Maisey Yates photo 252a8ba49c0d8c90b8065da00f9003fb_zpsd09b542e.jpg
There was something about being tied up that she liked. His dominance was arousing, his skill was wonderful. And if it had been a game, nothing more than a power play between lovers, she wouldn’t have had a complaint.
But Ajax was using it for something else. Using it to keep control. To hold himself at a distance.
She wasn’t an equal in it. Wasn’t able to give back.

Wow…the heat, the sensuality….(view spoiler)
Will Leah be able to reach inside Ajax’s heart and heal him? Will Ajax ever break the walls he’s build around himself? Will these two endearing characters finally find their HEA?

Well, you will have to read this book yourself to find the answers….believe me, you will take a journey that will remain with you or a long time…just like it’s been for me!!!
Allright….here’s a little teaser ………….

A tender, beautiful and hot love story with some unexpected twists and with set in exciting NYC and beautiful St. Lucia.

I hope we get Leah’s sister’s book………….now that would be something to look forward to.

Review: The Black Box by Michael Connelly

The Black Box (Harry Bosch, #16)The Black Box by Michael Connelly
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Since I first read Black Echo, the 1st book in Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch Series, I have become a huge fan and follower of, what for me, is one the best crime series ever written.

Throughout all the books, I have seen Bosch growing from the wild, hot-headed and hard-drinking detective to a mature veteran, who’s still fighting for justice in his job working cold cases for the Open-Unsolved Unit of the LAPD. And as usual, using highly unorthodox methods, not afraid to “break” the rules if it means solving a case.

The Black Box is the 18th book in the series and there are two stories in it.
The story opens in 1992 during the chilling and traumatic events of the L.A. South Central riots to work on a homicide of a white woman that had been killed in an execution style in an alley. Because of the chaos during that time, the crime was never solved.

Twenty years later, Harry re-opens the case. He’s determined to solve the “White Snow” (as it had been named) murder. Watching him work with 20-year old police procedures and “battling” with the new technology was such fun. To see how he methodically gathers evidence on the case and how he follows the clues that no one else but him would see is a joyful journey. Fitting the pieces of a puzzle together!!! Amazing.
Though I thought the end was tied up too quickly with the solving of the case.

But the part I loved in this book was Harry’s relationship with his 16-year old daughter Maddie. His love for her, his guilt at leaving her alone so much and the way he tries to let her know how much she means to him was so endearing and poignant.

His daughter baked him and birthday cake and gave him a present of Art Pepper’s live 1981 recording (Harry loves jazz) and when listening to one of the songs, Patricia, he tells Maddie that Art Pepper had written that song, whilst in prison for heroin use, to tell his daughter, Patricia, how much he loved her…just blew me away!!!! Harry’s not a man of words….but I felt a knot in my throat at that very moment.

Maddie is quite an extraordinary girl, with something profound inside her……the scene where she’s crying after finishing reading a book was very poignant. She’s smart and has this insight that is truly amazing. She’s determined to be a cop like her father and though Harry has a few misgivings about her choice, he does things to help her if that is what she wants…like taking her to a firing range for practice.

I hope that the author will give us a Maddie Bosch Series one day……hopefully not having us waiting for too long!!!!!

Review: Inferno by Dan Brown

Inferno (Robert Langdon, #4)Inferno by Dan Brown
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What made me continue reading Dan Brown’s latest offering, Inferno, which is the 4th book in his Robert Langdon Series???

I had to seriously try to get this image of Langdon from my head (after watching the Da Vinci Code movie, which I absolutely HATED….mainly because of casting Tom Hanks as the hero…talk about BAD BAD casting…..i had to work really hard at getting to like Langdon in the next books after my encounter with TH..) And then….“Haven’t I read this story before?” I t asked myself on numerous occasions, as I continued turning page after page…yes, I had to continue even when I questioned my reason for doing so. You see, it was like I was reading Da Vinci Code or perhaps Angels and Demons again, with a couple of minor changes!!!!!!

The hero – out to save the world….this time he’s running around in Florence Inferno by Dan Brown photo Dan-Browns-Inferno_zpsc1d17a9c.jpg and a teeny bit in Istanbul, using his solving puzzles and riddles talent to save humankind.

The heroine – of course there has to be one!!! This time it’s a young, very smart..in fact a genius prodigy…doctor, who just manages to save the hero from being killed by an assassin and then proceeds to keep up with the hero as he unravels the mysteries that will get them both to save the world. It’s a good thing that she’s a doctor…because poor hero has amnesia when he comes to in a hospital photo 4129876253_zps8cf7eeb3.jpg” and needs the heroine’s help to get out and go on the run from the killers and bad guys and even the good ones…..Inferno by Dan Brown photo Dante_2558233b_zps059b88ab.jpg

The plot – this time we have an ego-manic who’s bent in wiping out the world’s population..or at least half of it because there’s too many people in this world, which will not be able to survive with the ever growing numbers….right…we all know this…!!! The hero and heroine now have to use Dante’s Inferno – yes that famous book!!!!...Inferno by Dan Brown photo 69cea824-fb89-431e-a551-61bb0975a636_zpsa0334747.jpg as the basis to solving all those cryptic poems, riddles and puzzles that are facing them. I even learnt something new…..neo- eugenics…. The proposers of ways to improve human beings, especially by selective breeding. These are the so called fanatics that the hero is trying to stop.!!!
Of course, it felt like a formula of a book I’d read before….

But hey..did that stop me??? …No way…. the pages just kept flipping over and over…..whilst I was taken on an incredible tour of the places that the hero goes to…..I learnt about the Divine Comedy, the story of David (yes…that famous statue in Florence), the Renaissance art and famous names, about the piazzas, the gardens…oh I did so enjoy a tour guide of Florence and Istanbul!

I followed Langdon’s quest as he discovered clues and revelations along the way……what amazes me is how the author still managed to surprise me so many times. Just when I thought I knew the answer or who the bad guys were…bam……..SO WRONG….so another surprise...another twist.

So, I continued on this fast paced journey….rather trip because the story happens over a day or two…..ooh and does a LOT happen in that short time.
I did think that the ending was a bit “naff”, (view spoiler) which kind of left me thinking…..YES….there’s another movie coming out soon about Robert Langdon’s latest adventure….JUST PLEASE PLEASE….don’t cast Tom Hanks in it………he’s too old, too dull and just too damn BORING...

and then maybe, just maybe I might brave myself to go and see it!!!

Okay, so I enjoyed reading this latest offering by Dan Brown….but did I love it???? No….I had Tom Hanks on my brain as I turned the pages……….but I have to be honest ….I did love all the info on the history of Florence/Istanbul and it even made me take out my copy of Dante’s Inferno!!!!!! And I liked the book cover!!!!

I can recommend this book if you liked the others in this series.
